ustralia’s Osmoflo has moved into the Oman market by securing an EPC contract from ACWA Power Barkawas to provide a 56 775 m3/d (12.5 MIGD) seawater reverse osmosis plant for the Barka desalination project located 60 km north west of Muscat. ACWA Power Barkawas was awarded phase two of the Barka desalination project by the Oman Power & Water Procurement Co. The plant will be capable of delivering 12.5 million gallons of water per day and is part of a Phase 2 expansion of ACWA Power’s operations in Barka, where it already operates a plant delivering 136 660 m3 of water per day and 427 MW of power. Pretreatment will consist of a coagulant dosage prior to filtration with Pall MF membranes, and the high-pressure system will be equipped with Calder DWEER energy recovery devices. Taking its feed from the cooling section of the existing multistage filtration units, the Osmoflo plant has microfiltration pre-treatment followed by 5 trains of seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO). The system will be delivered in three phases, the first of which is scheduled to be operational in August 2015.
