This arrangement of supports and connectors serves as a mounting device t o suspend the solution bottles in a constant-temperature water bath and as bearings for the operation of the rod supporting the bottles. The water ( q ) provides adequate lubrication for the rod ends ( j ) in the connector bearings. The effective length of the tilting arm ( h ) is 6.3 cm., and it is operated by a

The excess solute is allowed to settle or may be centrifuged to produce a clear supernatant liquid for analysis.

References are given at the end of each chapter. Volume 1 does not contain an index but a detailed table of contents is provided. The Treatise is not intended to replace the great number of existing and exhaustive monographs on specific subjects, but rather to serve as an introduction and guide to the efficient utilization of specialized monographs. Volume 1, part 1 is a good beginning.
