MARKET PROSPECTS Group has been awarded a feasibility study and front-end engineering design (FEED) contract by the Iraqi Ministry of Oil for a new grassroots refinery at Nassiriya in southern Iraq. Foster Wheeler will develop the configuration of the new 300 000 barrels per day refinery, evaluate proprietary technologies, prepare a report covering the feasibility of the project and the design basis of the refinery facilities, engage the selected licensors and prepare the front-end engineering design package for the total project.

Saipem secures US$900mn onshore contract in Kuwait

K

uwait Oil Co (KOC) has awarded Saipem an onshore contract worth approximately US$900 million to build a new gas booster station in west Kuwait. The Saipem contract covers the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the new booster station (BS-171) which comprises three high and low-pressure gas trains to produce 234 million cubic feet per day of dry gas and 69 000 barrels per day of condensate. The project will be completed in the second quarter of 2013. Saipem is currently building the Gas Booster Station 160 (BS 160) located in southeast Kuwait for KOC.

SNC-Lavalin targets Polish nuclear opportunities

NC-Lavalin Polska SP Zoo has signed a preliminary agreement with GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) to work together to evaluate new nuclear power plant opportunities in Poland. Poland plans to build up to four new nuclear power plants at two sites to help diversify its energy production, which relies heavily on coal-based technologies. SNC-Lavalin Polska recently completed the new Patnow 460 MW Supercritical Steam Generating unit located at Konin in Poland.

oster Wheeler AG’s Global Power Group will design and supply three circulating fluidisedbed (CFB) steam generators for the Sinopec Wuhan Co’s cogeneration plant at the company’s 800 000 ton/year ethylene project in central China’s Wuhan city. Foster Wheeler will design and supply the three 80 MWe CFB steam generators and auxiliary equipment and provide site advisory services for the project. The CFB steam generators will be designed to burn coal and petroleum coke. Commercial operation of the new steam generators is scheduled for the second quarter of 2012.

Rentech selects Fluor for Rialto Biomass-toEnergy Project

luor Corp is to provide front-end engineering and design (FEED) services for Rentech Inc’s Rialto Renewable Energy Centre located 50 miles east of Los Angeles. Fluor will perform FEED services for the facility and the project’s supporting infrastructure. The Rialto Project, which will use green urban waste as feedstock, is expected to be the first commercial biomass gasification facility in the United States that will co-produce renewable electric power and synthetic diesel fuel.

Aker Solutions awarded Russian chlorine dioxide plant contract

ker Solutions is to supply an integrated chlorine dioxide plant for Ilim Group’s pulp mill project in Bratsk, Russia under an US$18 million contract.

The 15 tonne/day integrated chlorine dioxide plant is scheduled for commissioning in 2012, and will complement Ilim’s US$700 million project to build a new, modern 720 000 tonnes/year pulp line at Ilim’s existing Bratsk Mill. The plant will use Aker Solutions’ proprietary integrated chlorine dioxide process technology. Aker Solutions will supply technology, engineering, equipment, site and commissioning services from its office in Vancouver, Canada, with support from its office in Moscow.

KBR technology selected for ammonia plant in Argentina

ierra Del Fuego Power & Chemical Co Ltd has selected KBR to provide licensing and process design for a grassroots ammonia plant in Tierra Del Fuego, Argentina. KBR will license its conventional ammonia technology for the anticipated 1500 metric tons per day (MTPD) plant. Work on the project is expected to begin as early as July 2010. Tierra Del Fuego Power & Chemical Co Ltd is a joint venture formed by China-based Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group Co Ltd, Shaanxi Xinyida Investment Ltd and Jinduicheng Molybdenum Group Co Ltd.

Fluor/Amec JV to undertake Canadian copper-gold mine project

Fluor and AMEC joint venture company is to provide engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services for Terrane Metals Corp’s Mt Milligan copper-gold project in Canada. British Columbia Mining Joint Venture (BCMJV) will provide EPCm services for a 60 000 tonnes per day copper flotation process plant, tailings storage facility, ancillary plant facilities, 92 kms of electric power transmission lines and a 600-person construction camp in the remote location.
