ACMA launches industry logo DURING THE American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA) trade show in Florida last month, the association’s president Richard Morrison unveiled an industry branding statement and logo designed to unify the industry and promote the benefits of composites for all association members. Morrison encouraged show attendees to use the new branding statement, ‘Composites: Multiple strengths, infinite possibilities,’ to associate their products with the many positive attributes of composites. ACMA plans to license the use of the logo and branding statement for free to ACMA members which accept a licensing agreement providing

simple guidelines for displaying the branding statement and logo. This is to maintain consistency, the association says. The building-block motif of the logo graphic is said to depict the strength and multicomponent nature of all composites, while the pyramidal shape provides a unifying theme and underscores composites’ unique design flexibility. The continually varying perspective of the centre block represents the broad spectrum of performance characteristics available from composites. “ACMA encourages all of its members to display the new logo and branding statement, but only as an adjunct to their own identity,” says John Busel,

director of the Composites Growth Initiative within ACMA. “We would like to see it used on members’ product labels and packaging, as well as their literature, websites, and other communications.” Earlier this year, a similar initiative was launched in Europe under the Composed with Composites brand (Reinforced Plastics, March 2004, pages 78-79). All manufacturers of composite products can use this logo free of charge. ACMA; tel: +1-703-5250511; website: www.acmanet.org.

ZOLTEK, St. Louis, Missouri, USA, has agreed to a US$20 million convertible debenture financing package. The proceeds will be used to retire bank debt, complete the restarting of carbon fibre production lines at its Texas facility, and expand capacity at its Hungarian facility by continuing the conversion of acrylic fibre production to carbon fibre precursor and adding new carbon fibre production capacity. When its existing facilities in Texas and Hungary are at full capacity, Zoltek expects to be able to produce 4500 tons of continuous carbon fibres a year. Zoltek; website: www.zoltek. com.
