DUCTNEWS haseSep liquid/liquid coalescer improves fluid quality at low cost Because of the high costs involved with effective separations of liquid/liquid dispersions, Pall Corporation has responded with the PhaseSep liquid/liquid coalescer, now available for virtually any liquid/liquid separation application in the oil, gas and chemical industries, Developed to efficiently separate liquid/ liquid dispersions and remove liquid contamination, the coalescer provides high fluid quality and value, thus saving reprocessing, downgrade and transportation costs. Its longer life and superior liquid removal efficiency allow the PhaseSep to significantly reduce overall costs of contaminant removal and other operating costs incurred by end-users. The high-performance stack design of the coalescer allows an even flow distribution, which in turn, permits a high flow rate. Fewer coalescer cartridges are required to efficiently separate the liquids, resulting in a small economic assembly. Also, the

long life of the filter cartridges results in fewer cartridge changeouts, which reduces maintenance and changeout costs as well as cartridge disposal costs. In addition, the PhaseSep liquid/liquid coalescer’s excellent coalescing properties eases the separation of liquids with ultra low inter-facial tension, which cannot be separated by conventional coalesces. Combining the coalescer with Palls specially designed horizontal housing, the PhaseSep system has separated liquid/liquid emulsions with an IFT lower than 2.0 dyne/cm. The coalescer is available in several different materials, all of which have excellent coalescing properties, to ensure compatibility with virtually any type of liquid/liquid mixture. vals or on demand, a burst of compressed air is released down the inside of the filter bag, creating a momentary reverse flow which pulses the bag and dislodges dust cake. The Master Jet is CEmarked as required by the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations, and is certified in compliance with Simple Pressure Vessels (Safety) 1991 (BS EN 286 Part 1). It also assists in meeting both CoSHH and EPA regulations. Master Jet is available with two filter options. The MJX model, fitted with a tubular filter bag manufactured from needlefelt, is suitable for arduous applications involving high concentrations of dust. The MJC model is fitted with spun bonded filter cartridges suitable for continuous operation in lighter duty applications involving dry free flowing powders. introduces Clariflow

PTI Technologies has announced the release of its first fully validated product line of pleated cartridges for microfiltration applications, called Clariflow. The new cartridge is constructed of an innovative mirrored anisotropic polyethersulfone (PES) membrane encased and supported by allpolypropylene materials, The cartridges are available in three specialised performance grades: pharmaceutical, electronics and biological, and in pore sizes ranging from 0.2 to 0.65 urn. Each grade has its own Validation Guide complete with documented development and testing protocols. Configured and optimised for cartridge lengths from 10 to 40 inches,

each grade is designed and tested to excel in its industry specific applications. Typical applications include parenterals, sterile vaccines, emulsions and adjuvants, reagent chemicals, bottle and mineral waters, purified water, wine, ophthalmic solutions, solvent filtration, etch baths, oxidative chemicals and fermentation feedstocks. launches low-energy filter

Airmaster Engineering has introduced its new Master Jet reverse jet cleaned dust filter, which offers maximum efficiency coupled with exceptionally low running costs. Intended for a wide variety of industrial applications, its technical features have been developed from operational experience gained with Airmaster’s popular RJX filter range, introduced in 1984, which the Master Jet replaces. Incorporating new integral low-energy fans which reduce power consumption by at least 25% compared with the RJX range, standard options include built-in double filtration to achieve a filter efficiency of 99.999%. By redesigning the fan impeller, significantly more of the fan’s energy used is converted into useful work and less into heat and noise, resulting in a reduction of more than 5 dB compared with most fans used in this industrial application. To ensure efficient bag cleaning and therefore maximum efficiency, at pre-set inter-

Of particular interest are the latest wound depth XTL cartridges, which are claimed to provide twice the life without any loss of efficiency, and XLH high efficiency bag filters, which offer bag filter convenience but with cartridge filter efficiency. Single, double and multiple filter housings in a wide range of materials are also available. Industrial Division, Acal Auriema Ltd, 442 Bath Road, Slough, Berkshire SLl 6BB, UK. North Sea gas condensate filter package Alan Cobham Engineering and Richard Mozley Ltd have joined forces to produce a novel filtration system to remove the high level of solids contamination emanating from gas pipelines. Such contamination normally concentrates in the liquid phases, and the levels carried in both hydrocarbon condensate and aqueous MEG can block conventional filter cartridges rapidly. The system is based on a combination of different though complementary separation mechanisms that have been conceived and sized to suit the duty requirements of the system as a whole as well as suit the operation of other mechanisms. The final design incorporates five filtration processes. Stage 1 comprises coarse inlet strainers to protect the Mozley hydrocyclones from blocking or bridging caused by mass concentration and general particle size distribution. Each vessel contains three stainless-steel strainer elements to remove 100% of all particulates greater than 400 pm in size. Seven banks of 15 Mozley hydrocyclone tubes with a 15% integral redundancy form the second stage. This removes solids contaminant in the critical particle size present, and accommodates up to 90% tum-

down and any solid/liquid contamination identified on-site. The overflow (clean line) from the second stage passes to polishing filters based on Alan Cobham’s gas condensate car tridges in the third stage. Each vessel contains a double-stacked array of high-efficiency disposable filter cartridges that combine depth and cake filtration to provide the extended contaminant mass retention capacity. Underflow (dirty line) from the second stage passes to another set of Mozley hydrocy clones with externally controlled flow split for optimum separation efficiency during turndown. Separation here results in over 98% of the original stream contaminant being concentrated in less than 1% of the total fluid stream. High-retention, highstrength bag filters are used for final solids collection in the final stage. Concentrated contaminant up to 65% solid by volume is removed for waste disposal/incineration.
