BASF goes for nanocomposites BASF has formulated ultrascratch-resistant automotive topcoats and is poised to roll out coatings based on nanocomposites into the OEM market by the end of 2007. Nanocomposite-based clearcoats are expected to be a significant advancement in the automotive topcoat sector supplementing BASF’s ProGloss, which has just been launched in the market. BASF is also creating nanocomposite dispersions for architectural coatings. These nanocomposites render high film hardness, high weather resistance with lower dirt pick-up against traditional acrylate binders. These products are also anticipated to find uses in thermoplastic and paper coatings industries. European Paint and Resin News, Aug 2004, 42 (8), 11
