Aker Solutions contracted for US gasification, liquefaction plant

M

edicine Bow Fuel & Power LLC has awarded Aker Solutions the Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) package for its Medicine Bow Industrial Gasification & Liquefaction Plant in Medicine Bow, Wyoming, USA. Aker Solutions completed a Pre-FEED study for the project in July 2010. Since then Aker Solutions has worked under a letter of intent to provide services relating to design review, licensor support as well as additional Pre-EPC engineering and design. The facility will produce liquid transport fuels and is due to come on line in 2015. When complete, the plant will be capable of converting coal into up to 21 000 barrels per day (BPD) of gasoline and LPG liquid fuels.

Nalco and Lukoil form energy chemicals JV

N

alco and Russian oil company OAO Lukoil have formed a joint venture to provide energy chemicals and services in western Siberia. The joint venture, OOO Kogalym Chemicals Plant, will be based in Kogalym, West Siberia and will provide Lukoil production operations in West Siberia with Nalco’s upstream chemical technologies and services, including well stimulation and cementing additives, as well as oil field production and enhanced oil recovery programs. Production volume for the joint venture will increase from an expected 4000 tons to 28 000 tons per year by 2015.

Saudi Aramco selects GE for Shaybah expansion

E is to supply US$500 million worth of equipment and services to Saudi Aramco for an expansion of the Shaybah gas-oil processing facilities in Saudi Arabia. GE is supplying 11 gas turbine-generators, 44 compressors, motors and services to enhance oil recovery.

Fluor to project manage Turkish refinery

S

ocar & Turcas Rafineri AS has appointed Fluor Corp as a project management consultant for a new refinery to be built in Aliaga, Turkey. The new planned refinery will be integrated at the Petkim petrochemicals site on the Aegean coast. Project work is already underway with construction start-up planned for some time in the first quarter of 2012.

Foster Wheeler wins Basic Design and FEED contracts in Brazil

F

oster Wheeler AG is to undertake basic engineering design and front-end engineering design (FEED) for two grassroots refineries in Brazil for Petrobras. The Premium I Refinery will be a dual train, 600 000 barrels per stream day (BPSD) facility in Maranhao State, and the Premium II Refinery will be a single-train 300 000 BPSD facility in Ceara State. Foster Wheeler will be the main subcontractor to Honeywell’s UOP, the managing process technology licensor. Foster Wheeler will provide basic design and FEED for the main process units and

auxiliary units. Each of the three refinery trains will consist of a crude vacuum distillation unit, a four-drum delayed coker, a hydrocracker, a distillate hydrotreater, a naphtha hydrotreater, a hydrogen unit, a sour water stripper and amine regeneration and a sulfur recovery unit. Both refineries will be designed to produce diesel.

BP awarded Exploration Block in Indonesia

P has been awarded a 100% interest in the North Arafura oil and gas production sharing contract (PSC) in onshore Papua Province by the Indonesian government. The North Arafura PSC is located on the coast of the Arafura Sea, 480 kms southeast of the BP-operated Tangguh plant, covering an area of just over 5000 sq kms.

Metso to rebuild pulp machine in Canada Metso is supplying Hinton Pulp with a rebuild of their market pulp machine for their plant in Hinton, Alberta, Canada. The 10 million project will be delivered and installed in late 2011.

Dow plans new propylene glycol plant in Thailand

T

he Dow Chemical Co is to build a propylene glycol plant in Map Ta Phut, Thailand, with a production capacity of up to 150 KTA. The new facility will use propylene oxide derived from the new, sustainable hydrogen peroxide to propylene oxide (HPPO) technology, developed jointly by Dow and BASF SE. The HPPO plant is being constructed as part of the integrated joint venture liquids cracker and derivatives project in Thailand with Siam Cement Group.
