Book review Environmental Impact Assessment Handbook By Barbara Carroll and Trevor Turpin, Thomas Telford, London, 2002, 175 pages, paperback in A4 format, GBP £40, ISBN: 0 7277 2781 8, http:// www.thomastelford.com This book is excellent for EIA participants in England, especially for nonexperts such as planners, developers and community activists—it probably would be useful for students as well. It is a ‘soup to nuts’ guide of the EIA process and method. The writing style is direct and clear, with a focus on practical issues. There are five chapters: an introduction to EIA, a review of EIA procedures, a discussion of environmental topics (areas of impact), a list of development types and a final chapter on environmental management. Also, there are handy appendices with lists, details and schedules. E.
