Mann+Hummel takes 50% stake in membrane specialist Microdyn-Nadir The Mann+Hummel Group is acquiring a 50% interest in the German water filtration company Microdyn-Nadir. Microdyn-Nadir specialises in the production and marketing of flat sheet membranes. The Wiesbaden-headquartered company supplies membranes and modules for microfiltration, ultrafiltration and nanofiltration serving the industrial and municipal water and wastewater treatment sectors worldwide. Microdyn-Nadir also has subsidiaries in Xiamen, China and in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA. The company has its roots in Hoechst AG’s membrane division, formerly known as Nadir Filtration which was founded in 1966. In 2003, Nadir Filtration merged with Microdyn Modulbau. “This 50% acquisition is a continuation of our goal of establishing Mann+Hummel
as a meaningful player in the water filtration business,” said Mann+Hummel CEO Alfred Weber. “The product range of both parties is complementary with very little overlap. So is the geographical presence: as Microdyn-Nadir is strong in Europe, the US and China and we are strong in South East Asia and Brazil.” Mann+Hummel entered the water filtration market in 2010, with the acquisition of Singapore-based Ultra-Flo. Fluid Brazil was added in 2012. The move into water filtration was part of Mann+Hummel’s strategy to grow its business outside the automotive sector. Until now, Mann+Hummel’s water filtration interests have focused on polymeric hollow fibre membranes. The Microdyn-Nadir deal is subject to approval by anti-trust authorities. www.mann-hummel.com www.microdyn-nadir.com
