SNC-Lavalin to build thermal power plant in Alaska

NC-Lavalin has been awarded a contract by Chugach Electric Association, Alaska’s largest electric utility, to design and build the Southcentral Power Project in Anchorage, Alaska. SNC-Lavalin’s work will cover engineering, balance of plant procurement and construction for a 183 MW natural gas-fired combined cycle thermal power plant. Chugach will purchase the power island equipment directly from the equipment suppliers for SNC-Lavalin to install, while SNC-Lavalin will commission the balance of plant. Work has already started and the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2012.
Japanese companies consider integrating hydro power businesses

The three companies will jointly pursue engineering, procurement, construction and operations of nuclear power plants using Toshiba’s Advanced Boiling Water Reactor (ABWR). The group can also use Westinghouse AP1000 technology. Toshiba and Shaw will deliver design, engineering, procurement and construction while Exelon would provide operations and related services for the projects. Shaw, Toshiba and Westinghouse are already working collaboratively with customers to build four nuclear units in China and six new nuclear units in the US. Exelon operates the largest nuclear power fleet in the US.
Pöyry awarded pump storage plant project in Austria

erbund-Austria Hydro Power AG has selected Finland’s Pöyry to provide engineering services and site supervision during the construction of the Reißeck II pump storage plant in Austria. Pöyry also already executed the tender and approval design for the pump storage plant.

itachi Ltd, Mitsubishi Electric Corp and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd are moving towards consolidating their hydroelectric power generation system operations. The three companies are looking to jointly establish an operational company and integrate their hydroelectric power generation systems activities, including marketing, servicing, engineering, development and design, in order to further develop the business.

subsidiary of Foster Wheeler AG’s Global Power Group has been awarded a contract by PolimexMostostal SA for the design, supply and erection of a 50 MWe circulating fluidised-bed (CFB) boiler island for the Bielsko-BiaIa Heat and Power Station in Poland, which is owned by PoIudniowy Koncern Energetyczny. Foster Wheeler will design and supply the steam generator and auxiliary equipment, and will carry out the erection and commissioning of the boiler island. The steam generator will be designed to burn local Polish bituminous coal. Commercial operation of the new steam generator is scheduled for 2013.
