F O C U S BASF increases production capacity of Laromer, energycurable resins & speciality monomers BASF will increase its annual capacity for manufacturing energy-curable binders, sold under the brand name Laromer and speciality monomers in Europe by beginning of 2014. Speciality monomers and energycurable binders add value in many applications including coatings for furniture and flooring, inks and overprint varnishes as well as lacquers for coating plastic and metal substrates. The additional capacity will also allow BASF to expand its portfolio of energy-curable binders with new products that are key formulation ingredients for high performance inks and overprint varnishes serving the growing food packaging market. Nippon Paint USA sells Seibert Powder Coatings Nippon Paint (USA) Inc, a subsidiary of Japan’s Nippon Paint Co Ltd, signed a deal to sell Seibert Powder Coatings to Protech Chemicals Ltd. Seibert Powder Coatings is a division of NPA Coatings Inc, a wholly owned subsidiary of NP-USA. The deal is expected to be completed by 15 Nov 2013. The sale of Seibert Powder Coatings is part of Nippon Paint’s plans to focus on its core businesses. Greenkote signs agreement with Anochrome to supply its anticorrosion coatings to customers in UK Greenkote PLC has announced a new licensing agreement with Anochrome Technologies Ltd through which Anochrome will provide Greenkote’s advanced anti-corrosion coatings to customers in the UK. Greenkote is a patented thermal diffusion process that applies proprietary zinc-based coatings to ferrous metals and alloys. In addition to blocking corrosion, Greenkote also increases wear resistance, eliminates hydrogen embrittlement and improves adhesion to paints and other topcoats. Original Source: Greenkote, 2013. Abakan announces completion of phase I of PComP nanocomposite coatings growth & expansion strategy Abakan Inc has completed the Phase I of its PComP nanocomposite coatings growth and expansion strategy, which involved installing additional powder microencapsulation equipment to double throughput. Phase II, expected to be completed by end-2013, will add more nanoparticle production equipment and sintering furnaces to expand production of this highly engineered product to 18 tonnes/y. Phases III and IV are scheduled to expand production to 60, and then 180 tonnes/y over the next twelve months. Further growth and expansion plans over the next 3 years call for the acquisition of up to 10 US based thermal spray production businesses that will have a total of 30-40 spray booths that service the growing oil and gas sector. Each coating cell can generate up to $5 M in revenues. The initial scaling up of powder production capacity of PComP thermal coating powders is to be financed by the proceeds of a recently closed secured term loan and exchange agreement and a demand note in the net amount of $1.22 M in new debt.
