GEA sells Château-Thierry site

G

EA has completed the sale of its French standard separators production facility – GEA Westfalia Separator Production France SAS – and the respective real estate in Château-Thierry (Hauts-de-France region) to the French industrial group Altifort as planned (see Filtration Industry Analyst, July 2018). GEA says that this is an important step towards streamlining its global production footprint. The transaction will preserve all related jobs. A transitional period of up to two years has been agreed by GEA and Altifort ensuring the purchase of relevant manufacturing services from the site.

Donaldson seals BOFA purchase

D

onaldson Co Inc has completed its acquisition of an 88% stake in UK fume extraction system specialist BOFA International Ltd (see Filtration Industry Analyst, September 2018). BOFA sells fume extraction systems to OEM customers, distributors and end users, and has recurring sales of replacement filters. The company’s fume extraction systems are used in laser, electronics, printing, 3D printing and dental applications. Headquartered in Poole, BOFA employs around 250 people and is expecting sales of approximately US$40 million in its current fiscal year. Donaldson will report BOFA revenue within its Industrial Filtration Solutions business in the Industrial Products segment. Hi-line moves into larger manufacturing facility

T

he UK’s Hi-line Industries Ltd has relocated to a new, larger production plant in Burton-uponTrent, Staffordshire, to meet growing demand for its range of compressed air purification equipment. The new facility, which is three times the size of Hi-line’s previous headquarters, will allow the company to expand existing production and facilitate a forthcoming extension to its product range. A large trade counter and customer pick-up centre at the new site will ensure that Hi-line continues its customer-centric focus. The investment in the new premises has been supported by a number of grants for energy efficiency and investing in people. The original Hi-line factory will be used for additional warehousing for refrigeration air dryers. Hi-line designs, manufactures, supplies and installs a range of energy-efficient compressed air equipment including air dryers, nitrogen/oxygen generators, compressed air filtration equipment, condensate management/drains and service kits.

FilterEasy completes new funding round

T

he US air filter subscription service FilterEasy has secured US$6.9 million in new funding, led by consumer brand specialists One Better Ventures. FilterEasy will use the funding to invest in product innovation and development, expand warehouse and fulfillment

capabilities, and continue to accelerate growth. One Better Ventures was joined in the round by Lead Edge Capital. Hengst closes Delbag acquisition

engst has acquired the German air filtration company Delbag from the FläktGroup (see Filtration Industry Analyst, September 2018). Founded in 1909 as Deutsche LuftfilterBaugesellschaft, Delbag engineers, manufactures and markets air filters and air filtration systems for use in commercial, industrial and residential applications.

Xylem signs MoU with Ethiopian government to explore water solutions

ylem Inc has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ethiopia’s Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy (MoWIE) for future cooperation to help advance the country’s water security. The MoU was signed at an event in Ethiopia attended by the country’s Minister of Water, Irrigation and Energy His Excellency Dr Eng Seleshi Bekele; State Minister Water Supply and Sanitation Dr Negash Wagesho; Xylem president and CEO Patrick Decker; and a representative of the US Embassy in Ethiopia. Dr Bekele said that the MoU creates an enabling platform to improve water supply and sanitation service delivery and ensure scheme sustainability. Decker spoke about the solutions Xylem would explore for the region, including non-revenue water, knowledge sharing, and creating more water and energy efficiencies to maximise resources and lessen the impact on the environment. “This exploratory partnership is a chance to strengthen our working relationship with the Ministry and build on positive conversations around water systems optimisation, energy, water and sewage

Lanxess partners with Standard Lithium

pecialty chemicals company Lanxess and Canada’s Standard Lithium Ltd are planning to collaborate on the commercial production of battery grade lithium from the brine at El Dorado, Arkansas, USA. The two companies are currently considering setting up a joint venture. Lanxess operates three plants for the production of bromine products in El Dorado. The bromine is extracted from the brine produced at the site. The brine also contains lithium. “For us, innovation also means developing new uses for existing products. The cooperation with Standard Lithium is still at a very early stage, but could open up exciting prospects for us in a trend-setting industry,” said Matthias Zachert, chairman of the Lanxess AG board of management. A feasibility study is underway. For the planned cooperation, Lanxess will provide access to its existing infrastructure in El Dorado, while Standard Lithium will build and operate a pilot plant on the premises.
