Diaphragm valve is enhanced to meet regulations for drinking water

G

erman valves and pumps manufacturer KSB SE & Co KGaA reports that its subsidiary SISTO Armaturen SA is launching its SISTO-16TWA valve type series for drinking water applications with new materials for wetted components. KSB says that these valves have been developed to meet increasingly strict requirements in Europe placed on metal materials, plastics and elastomers for use in applications involving drinking water. In order to prevent Legionella growth, valves must be able to handle high water temperatures over a long period of time. To ensure this, the manufacturer now uses high-grade stainless steel for the self-draining valve body designed without any dead volumes. The peroxide-free and sulphur-free elastomer diaphragms used in the new valve, with KTW and W270 approval, have been developed inhouse by Luxembourg-based SISTO Armaturen. They are designed for continuous operating temperatures of 90°C (194°F) and meet the elastomer regulations of the German Environment Agency applicable from 2022 onwards. The hydraulically optimised type series is suitable for a maximum permissible operating pressure of 16 bar. It is available in nominal sizes from DN 15 to DN 200. Sizes DN 125, DN 150 and DN 200 are also available in the proven variants with a plastic-coated grey cast iron body. For further information, visit: www.ksb.com/ksb-en/SISTO

Company News John Crane buys ADT’s Industrial Division

I

n the USA, John Crane has acquired Advanced Diamond Technologies’ (ADT) Industrial Division that develops diamond films for industrial, electronic, mechanical and medical applications. John Crane, which designs and manufactures a variety of products, including mechanical seals and systems, couplings, filtration units and predictive digital monitoring tools, says

May 2019

that this technology will result in improved performance and reliability for mechanical seals under harsh conditions in pumps and other industrial applications – bringing important benefits to its customers. Broadly referred to as ultra-nanocrystalline diamond (UNCD®) technology, this thin-film diamond material is grown through a proprietary chemical vapour deposition process. UNCD improves mechanical seal reliability and performance in difficult applications involving poor lubricating fluids, liquids above their atmospheric boiling point and abrasive slurries. In addition, it has a low coefficient of friction which results in lower heat generation and energy consumption. ‘John Crane’s acquisition of the Industrial Division of ADT underscores our commitment to technology as a key driver of strategic growth,’ commented Jean Vernet, President and CEO, John Crane. ‘ADT has built an impressive business based on a unique and superior diamond facing process, making this acquisition a step in further enhancing our industry leadership.’ For further information, visit: www.johncrane.com & www.thindiamond.com

Acquisition helps Lydall grow its market share of the sealing sector

ydall Inc has acquired Hollingsworth & Vose Co’s (H&V) gasket materials business, in a move that helps it to grow its market share of the sealing sector. This transaction was fully funded by onhand cash through Lydall’s wholly-owned subsidiary Lydall Performance Materials, Inc. It builds on the Interface business that was acquired in August 2018 and integrated into Lydall Performance Materials. Commenting on the acquisition, Paul Marold, President, Lydall Performance Materials, said: ‘We are extremely excited about the acquisition of the gasket materials business from H&V. It coincides perfectly with our strategy of continuing to grow our market share in the sealing market with high-quality products.’ Lydall expects a seamless customer transition with full integration expected to occur within the second quarter of 2019.
