...Continued from front page “The new Houston Service Centre will strengthen Sulzer’s overall capabilities in pump services and ensure that we continue to deliver cutting-edge solutions for our customers,” said Glenn Doerksen, president of Sulzer Pump Services North America. Sulzer has also opened a new service centre in Balikpapan, Indonesia to serve customers in the oil and gas, mining, power and general industries. Offering a range of services for electric motors, compressors, pumps and steam turbines, the new Balikpapan facility can maintain and repair all types of small- to medium-sized rotating machinery. “The new service centre offers excellent turnaround times and will provide local support for our customers,” said Agus Susena, head of Rotating Equipment Services SE Asia for Sulzer. “This combined with the vast wealth of skilled human resources and young talented graduate engineers opens up further opportunities for Sulzer to capture some of this valuable wealth of local talent.” Sulzer’s investment in this new facility includes training experienced local engineers to operate the new machinery, such as the balancing equipment, winding tools and machining tools. The company’s network of service centres gives Indonesian customers access to service solutions for even the largest rotating equipment. Initial assessments can be made by engineers in Balikpapan, for example, and any repairs can be completed at the larger service centre in Purwakarta. Balikpapan is Sulzer’s 20th service facility in the Asia-Pacific region. Sulzer recently added a new service centre in Semenyih, Malaysia (see Pump Industry Analyst, October 2019). The Semenyih facility specializes in centrifugal pumps, compressors, steam turbines and electric motors. The 850 sq m purpose-built centre will provide specialist rotating equipment services for the power generation and petrochemical industries as well as onshore and offshore oil and gas installations.
John Crane expands service footprint in Belgium and Azerbaijan
S
ealing specialist John Crane has opened a new service centre in
Antwerp, Belgium and moved to a larger facility in Baku, Azerbaijan. Located close to the Port of Antwerp, the new Belgian service centre enhances John Crane’s local service and support network for OEM and end user customers serving oil and gas, power generation, chemical, pharmaceutical production and general industry markets. “With its strategic proximity to the Port of Antwerp, this new facility enables us to provide effective and efficient operations for our customers through the reduction of downtime costs and service repairs for mechanical seals, sealing systems, couplings and filtration systems,” said Ruben Alvarez, John Crane executive vice president, Sales and Aftermarket. “This service centre also allows us to support a long-term growth vision by investing in local infrastructure and continuing to develop our talent.” “The performance and functionality of our customers’ operations depend on us for a highly responsive service to increase uptime, reduce maintenance costs whenever possible and help them maintain environmentally safe operations,” said Sébastian Proença, general manager John Crane France & Belgium. “As part of our commitment to them, we are making it our mission to strengthen our service capabilities around the world and strategically build out our strong global footprint of more than 200 facilities.” Meanwhile in Baku, Azerbaijan, John Crane has relocated its service centre to a larger facility in the city. The new Baku service centre is twice the size of the previous facility and enhances John Crane’s local service and support network for OEM and end user customers in the oil and gas, power generation, chemical, mining, and food and beverage markets. It will also allow John Crane to support customers in Georgia and Uzbekistan. “John Crane has been supporting energy sector companies in Baku for more than a decade,” said Aziz Sallie, managing director, John Crane Middle East and Africa. “Our continuous investment in local capabilities, along with the request from customers for increased local support with a higher level of technology and service differentiation, clearly marked our strategy to commit to this investment. The move to a larger facility is a testament to the business growth and customer relationships we have established here and allows us to support our long-term growth vision by continuing to invest in local infrastructure and talent.” Already this year, John Crane has moved to a new, larger service centre in Livorno,

Aesseal invests £1.4mn in test house upgrade
A
esseal has officially reopened its mechanical seal test house in Rotherham, UK after a £1.4 million refurbishment. The test centre, where the company’s mechanical seals and compressor dry gas seals are produced and put through quality and performance trials, has undergone a major upgrade over the past two years. The entire test house building and offices have been reorganized and refurbished to allow for expansion of gas seals manufacture. The first high speed dry gas test rig arrived in 2017. Now this final phase has seen Aesseal invest £800 000 in another five stateof-the-art test rigs, with a sixth planned for 2020. “All our test rigs can be run on an automated basis, leaving operators more time to focus on preparation and post-test analysis,” said Aesseal test house manager Michael Rich. “They are also user friendly, which means new test technicians can be trained quickly, adding another efficiency to this rapidly expanding area of our business.” The inauguration was part of an open evening held by the seal manufacturer to attract more local students into a career in engineering. “As our business grows it’s crucial that we meet the demand for more people to fill the additional engineering jobs and supporting roles,” added Rich. “These visits show young people that engineering offers a wide variety of professional career opportunities and is a far cry from the ‘grease and overalls’ image some might have imagined.” Aesseal is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year (see Pump Industry Analyst, April 2019).
