Novozymes 1Q 2013: outlook for 2013 Novozymes’ sales and earnings for 1Q 2013 were in line with expectations following a satisfactory start to the year and, as a result, the outlook for 2013 is maintained on all lines with the exception of an increase in the expectation for sales growth in DKR. For the full year 2013, sales growth is expected at 5-8% in local currency (LCY) and organically. Within its Enzyme Business, Novozymes still expects all four sales areas to contribute to growth in 2013. The strongest growth driver in 2013 is expected to be sales of Household Care Enzymes. The full-year sales outlook continues to be based on the expectation that US bioethanol production in 2013 will be roughly at the level of 2012 and that the recently launched enzyme solution Novozymes Avantec will continue to increase penetration during the year. Within the BioBusiness segment, both the Microorganisms and Biopharma business areas are expected to contribute positively to growth. guaranteed in 2013. The reactors will have sufficient capacity for a plant of approximately 1400 barrel/d. At the time when they are transferred from Ventech to a plant owner, Oxford Catalysts expects to receive additional licence and catalyst revenues. In Nov 2012, Oxford Catalysts and Ventech announced that they had entered into a series of agreements whereby Oxford Catalysts became Ventech’s preferred supplier of FT technology in N America, and Ventech was granted non-exclusive assured access to design, sell, and deliver GTL plants incorporating its FT product to customers in N America. In collaboration with Oxford Catalysts, Ventech has developed the design for a fully integrated, shop fabricated, modular GTL plant.

derived from shale gas. UOP will build and install UOP Russell fractionation equipment that is designed to extract ethane and propane, highly in demand as petrochemical feedstocks for producing ethylene and propylene, two building blocks for plastics, from mixed natural gas liquid streams. UOP will provide Crosstex with a full turn-key solution that includes on-site installation and start-up services for the UOP Russell equipment, as well as other related equipment and infrastructure.

The Oxford Catalysts group’s new customer training centre and pilot plant, located at the site of the group’s US-based subsidiary, Velocys Inc, in Plain City, OH, was officially opened on 29 Apr 2013. The event was attended by prospective customers, suppliers, partner organisations, and the press. Visitors were given the opportunity to tour the facility. The integrated gas-to-liquids (GTL) facility includes microchannel FischerTropsch (FT) and steam methane reforming (SMR) reactors developed by the Oxford Catalysts group and marketed under the brand name Velocys, as well as a conventional SMR plant provided by the US Air Force. It has been operating since 22 Mar 2013 and is producing nearly 1 barrel/d ultra-pure synthetic liquids and waxes. Future plans include adding a microchannel hydroprocessor to the pilot plant to enable the production of finished fuels. The Velocys customer training centre and pilot plant will be used to test commercial plant configurations at commercially relevant operating conditions, as well as for customer operator training. The pilot plant augments the company’s previous field demonstrations, including one incorporating a nominal 25 barrel/d FT unit located at an integrated energy company.

UOP wins fourth licence for its breakthrough technology to convert methanol from coal to plastics UOP LLC, a Honeywell company, announced that China’s Jiangsu Sailboat Petrochemical Co Ltd has licensed UOP’s advanced methanolto-olefins (MTO) process to convert methanol from gasified coal into key plastics building blocks. It is the fourth licensing win for UOP’s advanced MTO process technology. The technology allows petrochemical producers in China and elsewhere to tap cheaper coal and natural gas feedstocks, rather than liquefied petroleum gas or oil, to produce ethylene and propylene to meet growing demand for petrochemicals.
