he Finnish mining and metallurgical technology company Outotec Oyj has announced a E93 million takeover offer for Larox Corp, the industrial filter manufacturer. Capillary Oy has informed Outotec that it will make an offer to purchase Larox’s 49% stake in Larox Flowsys Oy’s share capital in a deal worth approximately E3.5 million. It is expected that Larox Flowsys, which manufactures pinch valves and peristaltic pumps, will continue to use the name Larox for an agreed period.

Colfax establishes Defence Centre of Excellence in India

olfax Corp has opened a Defence Centre of Excellence (COE) in Mumbai, India to assemble and test fluid-handling systems for defence markets. Colfax already has Defence Centres of Excellence in Tours, France, and in Warren, Massachusetts. The three locations have specialized staff, fabrication facilities and equipment tailored to meet the specific needs of the defence industry. The Colfax Defence Solutions business offers pumps, valves and controls – including brands such as Allweiler, Fairmount Automation, Imo, Portland Valve, Tushaco and Warren – to pump fuel, lubricating oil, hydraulics, cooling water, ballast water, weapon coolants and fire-suppression liquids/chemicals. Through its Defence COEs, Colfax is able to provide custom-engineered fluidhandling solutions and “plug-and-play” modules. Colfax also provides critical testing and certification services for shock resistance, noise and vibration, and electromagnetic compatibility. “The COE established in India, along with our existing enhanced manufacturing and other facilities, aims to provide necessary fluid-handling assembly and testing capabilities, solutions and expertise to our
defence customers,” said V Balakrishnan, country manager of the Colfax business in India. Pankaj Sharma, manager of Colfax’s navy and marine markets in India, added: “Reducing noise and vibration is particularly important for naval defence applications, considering that vessels must operate as quietly as possible to avoid detection.” In addition to other projects, the Mumbai COE, through Tushaco, is currently supplying spare parts and overhaul for pumps fitted onboard an Asian navy vessel purchased from the US Navy. The centre is also working closely with a large shipbuilder to provide fully tested Tushaco pumps for submarines to be used by navies in Asia and worldwide. ardner Denver Nash has restructured its European service activities, centralizing in-house repairs in Germany at the company’s service centre in Nuremberg. The two former German service sites at Wetzlar and Nuremberg have now been integrated into the larger service centre in Nuremberg. The Wetzlar service centre has been closed and a new aftermarket sales office has been opened nearby. Following an investment in machines, installations and workstations, the new Nuremberg site has increased capacity in the coating and sand-blasting areas, the repair times have been reduced and there are better synergies in warehousing, new pump assembly and mechanical manufacturing.
