Her deep respect, extraordinary commitment, profound admiration, and unyielding passion for the profession of dietetics and the members of the American Dietetic Association (ADA). ● Her provision of legendary customer service to member leaders and members of the ADA for nearly 30 years. Her visionary guidance, collegial coaching, respect for diversity, and consensus-building skills. Her mentoring of ADA member leaders and the enormity of her wise counsel to ADA organizational units. Her actions as an exemplary stakeholder in Association governance, enhanced by her comprehensive knowledge of the Association’s history. Her ambassadorship in placing the ADA as a global leader in dietetics and nutrition through the development of reciprocity agreements between the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and dietetic associations from around the world. Her expertise in professional credentialing which has made CDR’s certification and recertification approach a model for other professions. Her representation on behalf of the ADA on the Interprofessional Workgroup for the Health Professions; Harvard University’s Leadership Institute Advisory Committee; the National Commission for Certifying Agencies; the National Organization for Competency Assurance; the Clearinghouse for Licensure, Enforcement, and Regulation; the Leadership Council of the Organization for Competency Assurance; and the Pew Health Professions Commission on Educating the Health Care Workforce.









His significant contributions to the understanding, prevention, and treatment of obesity through his groundbreaking research and insightful publications. ● His dedication to weight management education in schools as a means of fighting the growing national trend of childhood obesity. His tireless promotion of dietetics professionals as essential contributors to the optimal health and nutritional status of the population. His publication, locally and nationally, of his research responding to the low-carbohydrate diet, giving dietetics professionals the crucial information they need to address diet crazes, and helping the population achieve optimal health. His ability to translate his scientific research and unique vision into programs and publications for use by dietetics professionals. His national and international service to the dietetics profession through his participation on seven National Institutes of Health, Veteran’s Administration, and Department of Defense Study Sections; his service as a reviewer for numerous journals and scientific meetings; and his expert testimony on weight management to the Institute of Medicine.
