US Army Corps awards New Orleans pump station contract
T
he US Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District has awarded a US$29.5 million contract to Phylway Construction to build a new pump station with fronting protection features at the existing Wilkinson Canal Pump Station near Myrtle Grove, in New Orleans, Louisiana. The 33 month contract includes building a new pump station with a pumping capacity of approximately 1000 cubic feet per second in place of the existing Wilkinson Canal Pump Station and constructing fronting protection features to reduce the effects of storm surge on the pump station during a tropical event. This work will bring the Wilkinson Canal Pump Station into compliance with new standards and should be completed in spring 2016.
Offshore contract for Salt Separation Services
S
alt Separation Services has secured a contract from Total E&P Nederland for a containerised water purification package for installation on the F15-A platform in the Southern North Sea. The contract for Salt Separation Services is worth approximately £1.1 million. Total E&P Nederland’s F15-A5 well produces gas from Volpriehausen sandstone. The peak initial gas production of F15-A5 is 350 kNm3/d. The performance of the well has been reduced by salt deposition, as salt accumulates in the well riser and limits the gas flow. Seawater needs to be treated and injected to the well riser to dissolve the salt. Seawater contains suspended solids, bacteria, dissolved salts and dissolved oxygen, all of which can have an adverse effect on the injection system as well as on the well. Therefore their quantity in the injection water is to be reduced to an acceptable level to prevent any corrosion and plugging.
Due to the fact that the platform is unmanned, the use of chemicals has been limited as far as possible. As the platform may be permanently unmanned in the future, the unit has been designed to operate automatically. The solution includes over sized prefiltration to improve filtration efficiency and reduce the frequency of disposable filter changes and a two pass RO system with only one high pressure pump to reduce package footprint and weight, whilst also simplifying the process and controls. Due to the relatively low number of RO membrane elements (3 × 8 inch and 3 × 4 inch) a cost-benefit exercise identified that RO membrane replacement instead of RO membrane cleaning would be the most costeffective solution. Production of the containerised water purification system, deaerator column and storage tank has now started and is expected to be completed and delivered later this year.

roSep Inc is to supply a seawater treatment package valued at more than C$3 million for installation offshore Malaysia. The ProSep package consists of multimedia backwashable fine filters used to reduce suspended solids in water. The vessels are packed with layers of media, providing 100% removal of particles sized 10 microns and larger and of fine sediments. The ProSep equipment will be delivered during the first half of 2014.
Sembcorp invests in Norway’s Biowater Technology
S
ingapore’s Sembcorp has signed an agreement to invest NOK30 million in Biowater Technology, a Norwegian company that designs and engineers technologies for the treatment of municipal and industrial wastewater.
