Kaizen award for Kirloskar Ebara Pumps

K

irloskar Ebara Pumps Ltd’s (KEPL) KAIZEN practices have emerged a winner in the Confederation of Indian Industry’s 10th Kaizen Competition. Kaizen is a system of continuous improvement in quality, technology, processes, company culture, productivity, safety and leadership. Pune, India-headquartered KEPL received an award for a presentation made by two teams on the theme of ‘Reduction in Line Organisation Loss using Single-Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED) technique’. SS Katare, KEPL plant head, said: “We are honoured to receive this recognition for our quality improvement practices. We at KEPL have always made an effort to put our best foot forward and work towards ‘change for better’. This is yet another step towards the journey from Good to Great!” Around 90 teams participated in the event. KEPL introduced a Kaizen culture in April 2013. KEPL is a joint venture between Kirloskar Brothers Ltd (KBL), India and Ebara Corp, Japan.

New owner for Obermann

K

arl-Heinz Mühlhäuser GmbH & Co KG, a German tunnelling and mining equipment supplier, has acquired Obermann, an injection and grouting technology specialist that manufactures high-pressure jet grouting and flushing pumps. Founded by Klaus Obermann in 1977, Obermann provides injection technology and measurement engineering for tunnel construction and special foundations. Products include mixing plant, grouting units, high-pressure jet grouting and flushing pumps and measurement systems, and drilling rigs. The company employs around 40 people at its facility in Brensbach, Germany. “For me, it is the fulfilment of my dearest wish,” said Klaus Obermann (72). “A life’s work which my wife and I have accomplished over a period of 37 years is now being

entrusted into safe hands and will have a secure future with Mühlhäuser.” Obermann will assist the company in an advisory capacity over the next few years, working in particular on innovations and new products. Smith & Loveless acquires Schloss Engineered Equipment

mith & Loveless Inc has bought headworks equipment designer Schloss Engineered Equipment Inc. Aurora, Colorado-based Schloss Engineered Equipment designs headworks screening, compacting, conveying, washing and dewatering technologies.

“The well-respected Schloss brand in screening technology and headworks dewatering equipment – established by the technical ingenuity of the Schloss family – stands for robust design and engineering, and remarkably complements Smith & Loveless’ market-leading grit removal equipment,” said Smith & Loveless president Frank Rebori. Schloss CEO and president Kristy Schloss said: “Joining Smith & Loveless will accelerate the growth and legacy of the Schloss equipment line. Hardide Coatings invests US$7mn in US production plant

H

ardide Coatings Inc, the advanced surface coating technology company, is planning a new US$7 million manufacturing plant in Martinsville, Virginia, USA. The new 26 000 sq ft facility, which should be operational in the fourth quarter of 2015, will service existing and new customers in the oil and gas, aerospace, flow control and advanced engineering markets.
