CONFERENCE TECHNIQUES

ON VERY LARGE BASELINE

Toulouse, France, 31 August-2 September 1982 The Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales (CNES) will organize an international conference on very large baseline interferometry techniques, in Toulouse, France, from 31 August to 2 September 1982. This conference will take place at a time when classical interferometry used for aperture synthesis is moving towards new spectral ranges and new systems; at the same time the applications of postprocessing interferometry to astrophysics, geodesy, planetary flights and astrometry are developing considerably thanks to the progress in ultra-stable oscillators and processors. Moreover, a new stage arrives when space is not only a user but also a support for interferometry techniques of aperture synthesis (very large planetary bases, on-board systems, etc.). A scientific committee will examine the proposals for papers. This committee, chaired by Mr. Francois Biraud of the Paris Meudon Observatory, is composed as follows : Chairman: F. Programme

Three main subjects will be covered by the conference: I. Measurement Techniques General problems of VLBI. Frequency standards and absolute timing. Data transfer (recording, transmission). II. Data Analysis Baseline determination (application to geodesy, crustal dynamics, Earth movement. . .) Position, mapping and diameter of sources. Investigation of propagation medium properties. III. State of the Art, Projects and Prospects For each of these subjects, all the frequency range from radio waves to optical waves is considered, and artificial as well as natural sources are studied. The working languages will be French and English. Simultaneous translation in both languages will be provided. The deadline for submission of abstracts was 31 January 1982. Registration

A registration fee of 500 FF is requested for attendance at the conference sessions; it includes lunches, abstracts of all the papers presented and, after the conference, one copy of the final proceedings. Toulouse, France, 13-l 7 September 1982 The International Society for Photogrammetry was founded at the beginning of the century. With the development of new airborne and space techniques used for the observation of the Earth, the International Society for Photogrammetry became the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing at 50
