Below, the Chicago Dental Society’s “Brush Bus” made weekly trips to Chicago inner city elementary schools during NCDHM carrying brushes to distribute to more than 3,000 children in ten different schools. After distributing brushes and demonstrating proper oral hygiene techniques in school as­ semblies, CDS dentists visited individual classrooms to answer questions and reinforce preventive dental health practices. Above, “Richard the Computer” was a popular attraction during the Dental Health Fair, coordinated by the West Virginia University School of Dentistry’s dental hygiene students. Specially programmed by Susan Donley, dental hygiene student at WVU, Richard asked questions about dental health and evalu­ ated the responses, giving continued chances to make the right answers. All correct responses brought personalized praises from Richard.

Above, “Strike Out Against Tooth Decay” was the theme at the Eielson Air Force Base Bowling Lanes. Every bowler who bowled a strike re­ ceived a toothbrush. The boy and the girl who scored highest received a package containing a NCDHM poster, calendar, and button. Above, “Run Your Plaque Off,” a race conducted in a popular park to create awareness of dental health, was a successful and popular activity in California’s Santa Clara County.
