LETTERS TO THE EDITOR 3p21 and 3q25 Breakpoints Successively Involved in a Philadelphia-Positive Chronic Myelocytic Leukemia With Thrombocythemia We have previously reported a case of chronic myelocytic leukemia (CML) with the translocation t(3;20)(p21;p13), associated with t h r o m b o c y t h e m i a [1]. After our report appeared, the patient d e v e l o p e d a blastic crisis with persistence of the hyperthrombocytosis. The karyotype n o w presented a n e w and c o m p l e x translocation involving the der(3) and c h r o m o s o m e s #15 and # 1 7 (Figs. 1 and 2). Thus, the karyotype was shown to be 46,XY,t(9;22)(q34;q11)t(3;20) (p21;13) t[der(3);15;17] (q25;q22;q21). C h e m o t h e r a p y was a d m i n i s t e r e d (azacytidine and VP16); however, the patient's c o n d i t i o n deteriorated r a p i d l y and he d i e d of infection. The new breakpoint of c h r o m o s o m e #3, (3q25), is to be considered in relation to reports in the literature [2-4], relating it to t h r o m b o c y t h e m i c aspects of hematologic disorders. The i n v o l v e m e n t of chromosomes #15 and #17 also are of interest. M.F. TURCHINI P. TRAVADE A. GENEIX A. DE LAROQUE B. PERISSEL P. MALET
