Tetsuya Someno, Kazuo Kato, Tetsushi Saino, Shinichi lshii, Tomio Takeuchi, Hamao Umezawa, Oomiya, Japan assigned to Nippon Ka'yaku Kabushiki Kaisha A biospecific adsorbent comprising pyroglutamyl-lysyl-leucyl-argininal combined with a water-insoluble support is provided. This biospecific adsorbent is useful as an adsorbent for use in affinity chromatography and can be utilized for the purification of proteases such as urokinase.

Ronald Rohrbach assigned to UOP tnc A support matrix which immobilizes enzymes by ion exchange forces comprises a core support deposited on which is a functionalized polyethylenimine insoluble in water. Such support matrices may be prepared from a virtually limitless variety of core supports since the functionalized polyethylenimines of this invention show excellent adhesive properties even to smooth surfaces. Such support matrices are particularly useful where the enzyme to be immobilized has a rather limited inherent half-life. The funetionalized polyethylenimine is a carboxylic acid amide of polyethylenimine, a sulfonic acid amide of polyethylenimine or polyalkylated polyethylenimine.

4525457 M E T H O D OF IMMOBILIZING ENZYMATICALLY ACTIVE MATERIALS Ko Sakata, Hirosuke Imai, Kawasaki, Japan assigned to Nippon Oil Co Ltd This invention discloses a method of immobilizing an enzymatieally active material to a water-insoluble polyanion which comprises bringing a polycation-containing aqueous medium and the enzymatically active substance into contact with the water-insoluble polyanion having any desired form. This method is characterized in that the enzymatically active substance is adsorbed on the surfaces of the waterinsoluble polyanion and, at the same time, a strong complex is formed by the interaction of the polycation and the polyanion to produce a water-insoluble film. As a result, the enzymatically active substance so adsorbed is securely fixed to the surfaces of the waterinsoluble polyanion and scarcely released therefrom.

4525465 WATER-INSOLUBLE BIOSPECIFIC ABSORBENT CONTAINING ARGININAL DERIVATIVE

An enzymatic toxic gas sensor l0 having a plurality of parallel planar surfaces and a buffered electrolyte reservoir 44. The buffered electrolyte is conveyed by means of diffusion to a substrate 28 to dissolve the substrate. The substrate diffuses to an immobilized enzyme where it is hydrolyzed if the enzyme is active. An electrochemical cell continuously monitors the hydrolyzed substrate concentration which is an indication of the enzymatic activity and presence of toxic gas. A circuit means responds to the current output of the electrochemical cell to indicate the presence or absence of a toxic gas. The shelf life of the sensor is extended by means of a separator for maintaining the enzyme dry and inactive. The enzyme in the preferred embodiment is acetylcholinesterase (AcHe).
