New Patents reaching the heating surface of the heat exchanger.

4765058 APPARATUS FOR MANUFACTURING ENHANCED HEAT TRANSFER SURFACE Steven R Zohler assigned to Carrier Corporation An apparatus for producing a high performance evaporator tube having a subsurface channel formed between adjacent helical fins with the subsurface channels having alternating closed portions and open pores above the subsurface channels. The fins of the tube are rolled-over toward the adjacent fin and then contacted with a notched disc to form the alternating closed portions and open pores. 4765394 HEAT EXCHANGER WITH A SOOT BLOWER Georg Ziegler, Winterthur, Switzerland assigned to Sulzer Brothers Limited Each heat-exchanger surface is comprised of parallel coolant-carrying tubes and at least one soot-blowing tube which can be supplied with a soot-blowing medium and which has at least one nozzle for the egress of the soot-blowing medium. A protective tube connected to the heat-exchanger surface is disposed before and parallel to the soot-blowing tube on the heatreceiving side of the wall and is flowed through by the same coolant as flows through the heatexchanger surface. The nozzle extend between the protective tube and the wall. The sootblowing tube has satisfactory heating protection and the coolant in the protective tube has the same exit temperature as the other tubes of the heat-exchanger heating surface. 4765395 DEVICE FOR THE CONTINUOUS PRODUCTION OF HEAT AND COLD Gerard Paeye, Franci Meunier, Carquefou, France assigned to Jeumont-Schneider Corporation

v

A device for continuous production of heat and cold comprises a combination of an external heat source (10), at least first and second units (1, 2) each of which operates by using different solidfluid adsorbent-refrigerant pairs, and each of which includes two reactors (11, 12; 21, 22) conraining the same solid adsorbent, a condenser (13, 23) and an evaporator (14). The reactors of the first unit (1) are connected alternately to the external heat source (10) and the heat recovered from the frst unit (1) is used to heat alternately the reactors of the second unit (2). Heat may be tapped at the condensers, and cold may be tapped at the evaporators.

HEAT PIPE WICK

lknjami Seidenberg assigned to The United State~-of America as represented by the Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration A wick for use in a capillary loop pump heat pipe. The wick material is an essentially uniformly porous, permeable, open-cell, polyethylene thermoplastic foam having an ultra high average molecular weight of from approximately 1,000,000 to 5,000,000, and an average pore size of about 10 to 12 microns. A representative material having these characteristics is POREX UF which has an average molecular weight of about 3,000,000. This material is fully compatible with the FREONs and anhydrous ammonia and allows for the use of these very efficient working fluids in capillary loops.

4766013 CARBON COMPOSITE ARTICLE AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME James w Warren assigned to Refractory Composites Inc A composite structural ceramic article and method of fabrication thereof. The article of the invention is specifically designed for use in high temperature, corrosive and erosive environments such as those found in heat engines, heat exchangers, stationary power equipments and industrial process equipments. The article comprises a porous carbon fibrous substrate or other suitable high temperature fibrous substrate which may include: a pyrolytic carbon or ap-
