New Patents synthetic peptide having the amino acid sequence Ala-Gly-Asp-Arg (AGDR) which is a protective epitope found on the circumsporozoite (CS) protein of the sporozoites of the human maleria Plasmodium vivax. When a monoclonal antibody specific for this four amino acid sequence binds to the CS protein of the P. vivax sporozoite in vivo, infection is prevented. Also described are pharmaceutical formulations of these peptides.

stains with a variety of B-cell leukemias and lymphomas, but is not crossreactive with any other cell type in man. With these features, it is also a useful reagent for the detection of human B-lymphocytes. S-HCL-3 monoclonal antibody recognizes an antigen present on entirely different cell lineages, namely macrophages of almost all tissues and polymorphonuclear cells. This antigen is not expressed on any other malignant lymphocytes except hairy cells. Moreover, this antigen is not found on other non-Hodgkin lymphomas which may resemble hairy cell leukemia. Accordingly, b-HCI-3 is useful in the diagnosis of hairy cell leukemic.

5096704 METHOD OF TREATING EOSINOPHILIA Robert L Coffman, Donna M Rennick assigned to Schering Corporation A method of preventing eosinophilia associated with certain immune disorders is provided. The method comprises administering an effective amount of an antagonist to human interleukin5. Preferably, the antagonist is a blocking monoclonal antibody specific for human interleukin5, or a fragment or binding composition derived therefrom.
