RICE CHITINASE PROMOTER

DOUBLE-FLOWERING NEW GUINEA IMPATIENS

Zhu Qu; Lamb Christopher J San Diego, CA, UNITED STATES Assigned to The Salk Institute for Biological Studies Novel chitinase gene, and its associated regulatory region, from a monocotyledon plant is described.

5399684 DNA SEQUENCES EXPRESSING M A M M A L I A N ALPHA-1ANTITRYPSIN Davie Earl W; Kurachi Kotok; Woo Savio L C; Thirumalachary Chandra Bellevue, WA, UNITED STATES Assigned to Washington Research Foundation DNA sequences to mammalian alphal-antitrypsin are provided which can be used for expression of mammalian alphal-antitrypsin.

Drewlow Lyndon W; Mikkelsen Edward P; Mikkelsen James C Ashtabula, OH, UNITED STATES Assigned to Mikkelsens Inc New, distinct and stable cultivars of doubleflowering New Guinea Impatiens (NGI) are disclosed. Double-flowering NGI produce one or more flowers with at least seven full or partial petals per flower. Double-flowering NGI cultivars are disclosed in which substantially all the flowers produce at least 7 full or partial petals per flower. The double-type flower characteristic has been successfully bred into all single-type (5 petals per flower) or semi-double-type (6 petals per flower) NGI cultivars thus far tested. The double-type flower characteristic has been combined with many desirable NGI traits including different flower colors, leaf colors, leaf variegation, and growth habits. Methods for the reliable breeding of the double-type characteristic into diverse single-type or semi-double-type NGI genetic backgrounds, as well as methods for increasing the degree of doubleness per flower or plant, are disclosed.

Compounds of the formula (*See Patent for Chemical Structure*) II in which P is hydroxy and T is the group -X2-CR7aR'/b-CHR8-OH or T is hydrogen and P is the group O-CHR8-CR7aR7bX2-OH and, wherein Xl, X2, R1,P.2, R3, 17.4, P.5, R6, R7a, R7b, and R8 are as defined in the specification,or a reactive derivative thereof. These compounds are useful in the preparation of DNA gyrase inhibitors.

A fragment of the gene for the hemagglutinin neuraminidase (kiN protein) of human parainfluenza Type 2 virus (PIV-2) and materials containing such fragment. The fragment is complementary to the gene RNA for the PIV-2 HN protein and contains the entire coding regions for the PIV-2 HN protein. The fragment is useful as a test agent or a therapeutic agent for P1V-2 infections.
