5434054 DEVICES FOR DETERMINING HYDROLASE ACTIVITY THROUGH ITS HYDROLYTIC RELEASE OF AN IMMOBILIZED INDICATOR ENZYME Pollmann Klaus; Freitag Helmut; Rothe Anselm Neulussheim, GERMANY assigned to Boehringer Mannheim GmbH Subject matter of the invention is a new method of detecting a substance with hydrolase activity in a sample, characterized in that the sample is brought into contact with an indicator enzyme, which is covalenfly bound to an insoluble carrier material and can be rendered soluble by the hydrolase activity, in that the cleaved off indicator is separated and in that its enzymatic activity is determined and test means for its implementation.

5434056 METHOD OF BACTERIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS, AND MEDIUM FOR THE DETECTION OF BACTERIA OF THE SALMONELLA GENUS Monget Daniel; Villeval Francois Saint Sorlin en Bugey, FRANCE assigned to Bio Merieux The invention relates to a method of bacteriological analysis for the selective detection of Salmonella and a medium for its implementation. The method is based on the specific capacity of Salmonella to ferment glucuronic acid or one of its salts, and not to produce beta-galactosidase. The medium comprises a nutrient which is metabolized by the bacteria, a chromogenic or fluorigenic compound capable of being hydrolyzed by the enzyme beta-galactosidase, glucuronic acid or one of its salts and a pH indicator.

5434055 COMPOSITIONS USEFUL IN ANAEROBIC DETERMINATION OF ANALYTES Jernigan Walte Indianapolis, IN, UNITED STATES assigned to Boehringer Mannheim Corporation The invention describes a composition useful in determining sample analytes, where the determination is carried out anaerobically. The compositions include an analyte oxidizing agent, an electron transfer agent, ferric ions, and two chelators. The first chelator complexes to ferric ions, but does not have good affinity for ferrous ions. The second chelator does chelate ferrous ions, and forms a colored complex with the ion. It is the colored complex which serves as the indicator for the analyte. Different formulations of the composition are described.

Dorian Randel Orinda, CA, UNITED STATES assigned to Quidel Corporation The present invention provides devices, methods and kits for assessing fertility potential of semen samples. Semen samples may be assayed by the present invention to identify those samples having more than 20"106 motile sperm per milliliter, a concentration associated with fertile samples.
