W e l c o m e to the Sixth International Congress Helsinki, Finland, July 3 to 7, 1995
On behalf of the Finnish Section of the Scandinavian Society for Surgery of the Hand, it is a real pleasure to invite all hand surgeons, residents, therapists, and colleagues interested in the treatment and rehabilitation of the hand to attend the Helsinki Congress. A most interesting and diversified scientific program has been planned, with a special emphasis on teaching, in the hope of attracting many young surgeons. More than 150 world-renowned Hand Surgery experts have been invited to share their expertise with us in Helsinki in 6 plenary symposia, 14 panels, and 8 current trends sessions. There will be ample opportunity to conMartti Vastarngiki tribute presentations in the 26 main topic categories, and to report results of current research within the framework of some 40 free papers and poster sessions. The organizing committee has also planned a social program that will include many social activities and opportunities for special outings ranging from fishing and golfing to gold panning. Helsinki, Daughter of the Baltic, is considered to be one of the most beautiful capitals in the world. Its proximity to the sea with a lovely archipelago, its many well-kept parks, museums, and art galleries, the colorful Market Place, its many shops and restaurants, make Helsinki a pleasant destination for Congress delegates and their families. Today, Helsinki is also one of the most affordable capitals in the world. On Tour Day, as well as before and after the Congress, Finland can offer many unforgettable experiences including the lake district, arctic circle, gold panning in the midnight sun, and rapids shooting, as well as peaceful days fishing and relaxing in a summer cottage. When in Finland, why not visit St. Petersburg or Moscow in Russia. The Hermitage in St. Petersburg is within one hours flight from Helsinki. We extend a warm welcome to all our colleagues from around the globe and look forward to seeing you in Helsinki this July to exchange knowledge, and not the least, friendship.
