eing one of the approximately 65,000 members of the American Dietetic Association (ADA) has numerous benefits. Yet ADA members aren’t always aware of the full panoply of advantages offered them as part of their member dues. Below is a brief listing of some important resources of which ADA members may wish to avail themselves. Feel free to distribute this list to your fellow dietetics professionals.

KEEPING YOU INFORMED The dietetics profession is a dynamic profession, particularly in this time of fad diets, childhood obesity, biologically-engineered food, and foodborne illness. It is difficult to stay on top of the latest trends while simultaneously giving the best service to clients, patients, and organizations. ADA has found several ways to keep members abreast of the latest information. ●

Daily News: A key resource for keeping abreast of the top news stories concerning dietetics and the profession, ADA’s Daily News is delivered via e-mail every weekday morning and is a brief review of the nation’s leading food, nutrition, and health headlines. The e-mail format allows members to click on Web links to the actual articles and the handy newsletter can be saved for later review. Sign up by going to ADA’s member-only Web site and clicking on the “Journal/Publications” link.

www.eatright.org: ADA’s continually-updated Web site provides information, resources, and links that are essential for any dietetics proThis article was written by Damon Brown, a freelance writer in New Orleans, LA and Jason Switt, editor for the Journal in Chicago, IL. doi: 10.1016/j.jada.2005.02.023

Other time-saving features include a customizable formulary of nutritional solutions, calculators, disease-specific screening and assessment forms, and a section on cultural food practices. Members benefit from discounted prices on this indispensable tool. Dietetics Practice-Based Research Network: This network provides data collection and dissemination of results that address dietetic practice and create collaboration between researchers and dietetics practitioners to develop and test tools and to document the value of food and nutrition services. For more information go to ADA’s member-only Web site and click on the “Research” link. Journal of the American Dietetic Association: ADA’s flagship publication gives a complete perspective on current dietetic research and issues. The Journal was restructured in January 2004 for easier reading, and the Web site (www.adajournal.org) provides 24hour research access and a searchable database of Journal articles back to 1993. On The Pulse: More governmentfocused than ADA’s Daily News, On The Pulse is a weekly e-mail news-
