The d e v e l o p m e n t of a process route for t h e p r o d u c t i o n of conical p a r t s from Fe powder is described. The process steps are: compaction a n d sintering of a preform, a n d hot forging of t h e preform in conical dies on a c r a n k press. New die designs, to give o p t i m u m d i m e n s i o n s to t h e f i n i s h e d product, are outlined.

PM is used extensively in t h e fabrication of W, Mo, Nb a n d T a b u t special melting p r o c e d u r e s are used to produce ingot metal.
