telephone presentation should suggest severe contact dermatitis (probably to nickel), leprosy, erysipelas, and relapsing polychondritis. The physical findings are typical of relapsing polychondritis, being present in nearly one third of cases at the onset, and in over 80% at some time during the disease. Involvement of joints (especially costochondral, sternomanubrial, and sternoclavicular) is seen in about 20% of cases o f relapsing polychondritis at the onset and 70% of cases during the disease. The additional finding of homseness strongly suggests laryngotracheal involvement, another site o f predilection for relapsing polychondritis.
