ABSTRACTS Human parvovirus and purpura Lefrere J-J, Courouce A-M, Muller J-Y, et al: Lancet 2:730-731, 1985 Four patients, ages 5, II, II, and 33 years, developed petechial purpura 48 hours after onset of fever, shivers, and rhinopharyngitis. Purpura was present on the legs of all patients and extended to the abdomen in one patient and to the thorax and upper limbs in two others. Human parvovirus was detected by counterimmunoelectrophoresis in two patients and two patients had anti-HPV-IgM. J. Graham Smith. Jr., M.D.
Laser surgery for psoriasis Bekassy Z, Astedt B: Lancet 2:725, 1985 Three patients with chronic psoriatic plaques were treated with CO, laser, wavelength 10,600 nm, with a defocused beam, giVing a spot size of 2 mm at a power of 160-200 WI em', Lesions were destroyed to a depth of about 1 mm, and

areas did not exceed 10 em' at each treatment. Treated areas healed within 3 to 6 weeks. New scar tissue gradually became as soft and elastic as normal skin and the laser-treated areas remained free of psoriasis throughout the follow-up period of 3 to 5 years. J. Graham Smith, Jr., M.D.
Is Rothia dentocariosa the cause of cat scratch disease? Hadfield TL, Wear DJ, Margileth AM, English CK: Lancet 2:720-721, 1985 The authors found gram-negative bacteria not characteristic of Rothia in lymph nodes from over 100 patients and in the conjunctiva and skin of other patients with cat-scratch disease. None of four sera from cat-scratch disease patients reacted against R, dentocariosa by indirect fluorescent antibody, Efforts to culture twenty lymph nodes were negative for any organism. J. Graham Smith, Jr., M.D.
