New nurses association answers to the manage The recently formed American Association of Managed Care Nurses (AAMCN) offers itself as the solution for educating and empowering nurses practicing in managed care environments today. The AAMCN is a not-for-profit active membership association of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and nurse practitioners who are associated with major managed care plans across the country. The benefits of becoming a member of the AAMCN include discounts and priority notification of
For the past few years, the National Certifying Board for Ophthalmic Registered Nurses has held item writing sessions at the ASORN Annual Meeting. Ophthalmic registered nurses who attend one of these sessions earn 1.5 free contact hours of continuing nursing education credit, and each question they write is an entry in a drawing for cash prizes. In the past, the cash prizes have been donated by ASORN local chapters. This year we also want to include ASORN members who are unable to attend the annual meeting and convention. Watch your August Newsletter for a tear-out form that you can send in to become eligible for the cash prizes. You may make copies and send in as many questions as you want. Each question becomes an entry in the drawing to be held at the annual meeting. Nonattendant winners will receive a check in the mail after the meeting. Cash prizes last year in Chicago totaled $600.00! Don’t miss this opportunity to make a contribution to your profession and win money too.

You can honor a colleague or friend with a lasting gift . . . a contribution to Nurses House-Nursing’s Only Charity. Nurses House is the only national voluntary organization dedicated to helping RNs in need. Services are extended to nurses from all 50 states and are given without regard to race, creed, color, or sex. For over 70 years, Nurses House, which is based in New York City, has been supported by the generosity of its members-nurses and friends whose contributions provide service, support, and counseling directly to nurses in need. One 52-year-old nurse, disabled by congestive heart failure and awaiting a heart transplant wrote, “Thank you very much for this check. It will help me pay for oil, electricity, and food. I sincerely appreciate the help you are giving me.” Another nurse recipient wrote, “The night before I received Nurses House check I prayed to God to help me learn how to live out of my car. Thank you for sharing with me light, growth, gifts, and hope.” Honoring a colleague or friend on a birthday, anniversary, award conferral, or other special event is a privilege, but often a challenge. Flowers are fleeting, material items are difficult to choose and frequently unneeded: what to do? Give a lasting gift, a gift to Nurses House in the name of the individual you wish to honor. Nurses House will send your “honored one” an acknowledgment of your generosity and information about Nurses House mission and service to nurses in need. Should you wish your gift to be publicly announced in conjunction with a special event, please advise Nurses House 1 month in advance of the name, address, and telephone number of the person to whom the announcement should be sent. Contributions may be sent to: Nurses House, 350 Hudson Street, New York, NY 10014.
