is presented. Another so-called auto-Bdcklund transformation for the mapping of one solution to another of the modified Korteweg-de Vries equation can be included. In contrast with known methods due to Clairin, Chen and Hirota, the auto-Bbcklund transformation for a nonlinear evolution equation is derived with a given transformation. (P6,Il) A NEW MASER EFFECT IN PLASMA TURBULENCE BASED ON A BREMSSTRAHLUNG INSTABILITY, M. Nambu, College of General Education, Kyushu University, Ropponmatsu, Fakuoka 810, JAPAN. The present state of understanding of a new maser effect (turbulent bremsstrahlung instability) is reviewed. The new maser effect, the idea that the resonant electrons in a turbulent plasma can radiate amplified electromagnetic radiation, does not require population inversion of electrons. The new maser effect always thus it is a coexists with Landau(or cyclotron) damping; In nuclear fusion magnetic confinement fundamental effect in plasma turbulence. will at a disadvantage due to the enhanced radiation losses in the long wave length region, while inertial confinement will be improved by the laser effect in the X-ray region. (P6,Il) AURORAL KILOMETRIC RADIATION DUE TO A NEW PLASMA INSTABILITY, S. Bujarbarua, S. N. Sarma, Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology, Assam Science Society, Panbazar, Gauhati-781 001, INDIA; M. Kyushu University, Ropponmatsu, Nabu, College of General Education, Fukuoka 810, JAPAN. We show that a high frequency plasma instability can lead to In the presence of a low frequency ion cyclotron aurora1 kilometric radiation. turbulence and a high frequency extraordinary mode (X-mode) test wave, this instability occurs due to a nonlinear force which originates from the resonant The growth rate of interaction between electrons andmodulated electric fields. the X-mode wave, in the form of aurora1 kilometric radiation, has been calculated and compared with observations.
