in its coverage of the vascular system. Its interest to the cardiologist is likely to be limited. Indeed, the chapter devoted to the heart seems rather less full than the other chapters, but perhaps that reflects one’s own specialized interest. This chapter concerns itself with embryology, anatomy. physiology, pharmacology and pathologic aspects of the blood circulation. and a short section on the lymphatic system. The part devoted to embryology is so cursory as to be worthless. The anatomical portioni lacks the much needed illustrative material to make such a chapter meaningful. The physiological and pharmacological aspects are then considered in more detail. but the pathology is then back to a thumbnail sketch. The lymphatic section in contrast is a superb vignette of a much neglected aspect of the circulation. Taken together, it is unlikely that anyone would buy this book solely for the portion devoted to the heart. It is the type of book that should find its way on to the shelves of well-stocked libraries, but in the present economic climate it would probably have a low priority.
