Foreword

Cardiac MR imaging

Scott A. Mirowitz, MD Consulting Editor

Cardiac imaging is potentially one of the most important applications of MR imaging. After many years of fundamental technical developments, cardiac MR imaging now appears poised to finally realize its immense clinical potential. The elusive prospect of a comprehensive cardiac MR examination—one that includes structural and functional information relating to the myocardium, cardiac chambers, valves, and coronary vessels—is quickly becoming a practical reality. Dr. Pamela Woodard is superbly qualified to serve as the Guest Editor of this issue of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging Clinics of North America. She is a graduate of Duke University’s medical school and radiology residency training program. She completed her fellowship in thoracic imaging at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, Washington University, where I had the pleasure to work with her. She stayed on at that institution as an assistant professor and, following a brief role at Yale, where she served as co-chief of

computed tomography, she has resumed her career at Mallinckrodt. She has received many important honors and distinctions, and she has provided her leadership and service to many important organizations and committees. She has also contributed significantly to the investigation of cardiac MR imaging through her numerous publications, presentations, and grant-funded research. Dr. Woodard’s work has helped establish her as one of the current leaders in the area of cardiac MR imaging, and I offer her and the other contributors to this issue my great appreciation for a job well done.
