The new contract expands the total value of contracts secured in Thailand by Thames Water to US$177 million. The deal, which includes leakage reduction in the Pathum ThaniRangsit region of the city, will start in August 1999. To achieve leakage reduction targets, Thames Water will use sophisticated technology first developed in the UK to help tackle leakage in London and subsequently successfully applied in Malaysia and Indonesia by the company. The present high levels of water loss (up to 50 per cent in some areas) result in reduced pressure and supply failure. The water saved under this contract will ensure a 24-hour pressurised supply throughout the area.
