ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL PATHOLOGY e106 Abstracts PPC-107 - SOCIODEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERIZATION AND DIAGNOSIS OF PATIENTS WITH BURNING MOUTH. LARISSA MOREIRA DE SOUZA, EMELINE DAS NEVES DE ARAÚJO LIMA, NATÁLIA GUIMARÃES BARBOSA, PAULA CRISTINA TREVILATTO, ÉRICKA JANINE DANTAS DA SILVEIRA, ANA MIRYAM COSTA DE MEDEIROS. UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DO RIO GRANDE DO NORTE. Objective: To diagnose and provide a sociodemographic profile of patients with burning mouth (BM). Materials and Methods: We performed a descriptive analysis according to sociodemographic aspects (type and location of the symptoms and the local and systemic alterations) in a sample of 163 individuals with BM. Clinical and laboratory tests classified them as BM syndrome (BMS) or secondary BM (SBM). Results: Most patients (60.7%) presented SBM. The average ages were 61 years in the BMS group and 63 years in the SBM group; most patients (82.8% and 79.6%, respectively) were female, some menopausal (59.1% and 52.2%, respectively). The burning was the most frequent symptom (73.5%), and the mouth as a whole was the most common site (25%). The local and systemic alterations most often associated with SBM were, respectively, periodontal disease (21.1%) and diabetes mellitus (38.3%). Conclusion: The correct diagnosis of BM is essential to choosing the appropriate treatment.

PPC-108 - COMBINED TREATMENT OF METASTATIC ORAL TONGUE SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA CELLS WITH THE FATTY ACID SYNTHASE INHIBITOR ORLISTAT AND CISPLATIN OR 5-FLUOROURACIL. Objective: To investigate whether the Orlistat (XenicalÒ) pharmacological blockade of fatty acid synthase (FASN) enzyme can synergistically sensitize metastatic oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma cells (mOSCC - SCC-9 LN-1) to cisplatin (CDDP) and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) killing. Study Design: Apoptosis and cell cycle were analyzed by using flow cytometry. VEGFA165b secretion was quantified by ELISA. Results: Synergistic interaction was observed between Orlistat and CDDP but not between Orlistat and 5-FU. The Orlistat and CDDP were able to efficiently trigger apoptosis and induce S-phase cell cycle arrest on SCC-9 LN-1 cells. VEGFA165b secretion was partially rescued by Orlistat treatment. Conclusions: Our results suggest that FASN inhibition represents a strategy to induce a synergistic chemosensitization of mOSCC cells to the standard chemotherapeutic protocol with CDDP.

PPC-109 - EVALUATION OF THE INFLUENCE OF BETHANECHOL CHLORIDE ON SALIVARY COMPOSITION AND FLOW RATE IN PATIENTS IRRADIATED IN THE HEAD AND NECK REGION. FÁBIO DE ABREU ALVES, CLAUDIA CARRARA COTOMACIO, ALYNE SIMÕES, EDGARD MICHEL CROSATO, LUANA CAMPOS,

OOOO August 2015 GRAZIELLA CHAGAS JAGUAR. FACULDADE DE ODONTOLOGIA DA UNIVERSIDADE DE SÃO PAULO/ AC CAMARGO CANCER CENTER. Objective: To evaluate the effects of bethanechol chloride (BC) in irradiated patients and its influence on the saliva composition. Materials and Methods: Twenty-five irradiated patients who complained of xerostomia used 50 mg a day of BC for 3 months. Xerostomia and sialometry were evaluated in 4 periods. Biochemical analysis consisted of buffering capacity, pH, concentration of total protein (TP), salivary amylase (AM), catalase (CT) and peroxidase (PX) activities. Results: Xerostomia showed a trend toward improvement (p ¼ 0.062). The mean of stimulated flow increased in Phase 2 (30 days of BC) in relation to Phase 1 (without BC; p < 0.05). The TP and AM concentrations increased (p < 0.05), and CT decreased (p < 0.05) between stages 1 and 2. There was no difference in PX activity. Conclusion: BC improved quality of life and altered the salivary composition in irradiated patients.

PPC-110 - CHEMOPREVENTIVE EFFECT OF BRAZILIAN RED PROPOLIS ON THE ORAL CARCINOGENESIS IN RODENT MODEL. GABRYELLA NUNES DOS SANTOS, DANIELLE RODRIGUES RIBEIRO, ANGELA VALÉRIA FARIAS ALVES, ESAÚ PINHEIRO DOS SANTOS, JULIANA CORDEIRO CARDOSO, RICARDO LUIZ CAVALCANTI DE ALBUQUERQUE JÚNIOR. UNIVERSIDADE TIRADENTES. Objective: To investigate the effect of the oral administration of hydroalcoholic extract of Brazilian red propolis (HERP) on DMBA-induced oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSCC) in rodents. Materials and Methods: Twenty-five rats were assigned into 5 experimental groups: TUM1 and TUM2 (treated with distilled water and tween80, respectively); and RP10, RP50, and RP100 (treated, respectively, with 10, 50, and 100 mg/kg of HERP). Carcinogenesis was induced in the lower lip of the rats using DMBA. After 25 weeks, the animals were euthanized for further histological examination. Results: HERP inhibited 40% of OSCC growth and a 3week delay in the development of clinical tumors in RP50 and RP100. TUM1 and TUM2 presented significantly more tumors than did RP10, RP50, and RP100 (p < 0.05). No significant difference was observed in the Ki-67 and p16INK4A immunoexpression between groups. Conclusion: Our results suggest that HERP exerts oral cancer chemopreventive activity but it is not related to the modulation of the proliferative index or the tumor-suppressor p16INK4A pathway.
