weathering, film smoothness and dispersal, all of which are important factors in making plastic film masterbatches. Black Pearls 3030 are suitable for use in photographic and surface protection films due to their good dispersability and film smoothness. Black Pearls 4040 are designed to meet agricultural film requirements, with their good opacity and weathering properties. Black Pearls 4060 offer very high opacity and they are best suited for use in agricultural films that need high weathering performance and a long service life. The addition of Vulcan XC305 and Vulcan XC605 to Cabot’s range of conductive carbon blacks was noted in ‘Focus on Pigments’, Nov 2002, 6. Now the company has added two more products to the range, designed for incorporation into semiconductive plastic compounds used in the manufacture of electric power cables. With Vulcan XC200 and Vulcan XC500, compound formulators are able to meet all key performance criteria for fully bonded or strippable shields. The two grades offer conductivity, strippability, surface smoothness, ionic purity and chemical purity. Modern Plastics International, Mar 2003, 33 (3), 74 & High Performance Plastics, Apr 2003, 2
