Investigations on determination of shear resistance of rocks have been carried out in R ~ m ~ l a , on a dam, which foundation was of gneiss changed by the l~rocess of cataclasis; The main l~roblem was to identify the role and action of water under pressure. This was studied from two parallel observation bcreholes situated at various distances from the bcrehole under shear loading and water pressure; The results indicated that the gneiss has not been influenced either by shear or by water.
