Godrej Consumer 2Q 2003-2004 net profit dips marginally Godrej Consumer Products Ltd recorded a decline of 1% in its net profit at Rup 139 M on sales revenue of Rup 1.215 bn for 2Q 2003-2004 as against a net profit of Rup 140 M on sales revenue of Rup 1.186 bn in 2Q 2002-2003. Sales of Godrej brands increased by 11% to Rup 1.154 bn. The market share of the company’s toilet soaps increased to 6.6% for 2Q 2003-2004 compared to a market share of 5.6% in 2Q 2002-2003. During 1H ended Sep 2003, Godrej recorded a profit-after-tax of Rup 277 M on revenues of Rup 2.394 bn with brand sales accounting for Rup 2.221 bn. Siltech adds capacity Silicone compounds and speciality surfactants maker Siltech has expanded capacity at its Toronto plant by around 7 M kg/y to over 10 M kg/y. COMPANY NEWS Orion sells Noiro Orion, Finland, is involved in pharmaceuticals. It has sold its Noiro cosmetics and detergents business to CapMan, Finland, a private equity investor, for €100 M. Clariant (Japan) augmenting base of speciality products business The speciality products sector of Clariant (Japan) KK is being strengthened following the restructuring of its parent company with the sale of the cellulose ether and electronics materials operations. The Japanese company will concentrate on strengthening its pigments and additives, textile/leather/paper (TLP) chemicals, dyes and performance chemicals sectors. From Spring 2003, a new managerial responsibility structure has been introduced.
