DESMI to sell DESMI Ocean Guard ballast water treatment systems

D

ESMI A/S and DESMI Ocean Guard A/S have entered into a cooperation agreement on the sale of ballast water treatment systems. DESMI Ocean Guard was set up last year by Denmark’s AP Moller – Maersk, Skjølstrup & Grønborg (UltraAqua) and DESMI A/S, specialising in ballast water treatment systems designed to protect local maritime eco-systems (see Filtration Industry Analyst, July 2009). The company is currently testing a 400 m3/h system at the DHI test facilities in Hundested, Denmark. DESMI A/S introduced the system at the SMM marine exhibition in Hamburg and expects to deliver the first systems in 2011. ”Considering that DESMI A/S has a wide and well rooted sales network to potential customers for the ballast water treatment systems, we will have a good basis for quickly spreading the knowledge of our ballast water treatment concept,” said DESMI Ocean Guard’s Christian Ingvorsen. “We are looking forward to introducing the system and its many advantages to our customers. There is a huge potential and having an approved and unique system we can only have a positive view of the future,” said Henrik Mørkholt, sales director at DESMI A/S. launching a new Water Specialisation as part of the RSM Executive MBA programme. Starting in January 2011, RSM and Wetsus will offer a higher management education to companies in the water business. With a strong emphasis on leadership development in an international environment, the aim of the EMBA Water Specialisation programme is to reflect and further expand on issues related to water quality, distribution and availability. Participants will take part in the first two terms of the Executive MBA Programme at RSM. The third term, specialising in the water business, will be modular in format and will take place at Wetsus in Leeuwarden. The In-Company project, supervised by an RSM faculty member, will also be on specialised water topics. “All indicators show us that there will be a global, severe water shortage,” said Prof Dr George Yip, Dean of RSM. “We therefore need to focus on this broad, complex issue, and help solve it by providing the necessary management and leadership skills to people working in the water management business.” “Successfully developing and implementing water technologies that address the world’s major water challenges requires talented, excellent and well trained people that can make a difference,” said Prof Dr ir Cees Buisman, co-founder and executive board member of Wetsus. “Aside from business principals, leadership and management skills, the EMBA participants will gain multidisciplinary insight to complex, worldwide water issues.” “The growing complexity of the water supply chain requires that the smartest people in the world join this industry. The initiative of Wetsus, RSM and its founding sponsors is driven by our desire to motivate experts to prepare themselves for the ever demanding water requirements of the future,” said Menno Holterman, chief growth officer and member of the board of directors at Norit, one of the founding partners of the initiative. “Times have changed dramatically for drinking water companies,” said Dr MG Flick, general manager at Evides NV, another of the founding partners. “While technical issues with long term views have ruled board room discussions for years, several developments have caused water companies to adapt business principles in order to adapt to short and medium term changes as a consequence of market developments,
