exceptional concentration of carbonate-hosted polymetallic ores, most of whid, occur in the Leadville Dolomite. Detailed comparison of these carbonate-hosted deposits shows that they cannot all have formed by the same process. One group of deposits (“Leadville type”) formed as a result of high-temperature hydrothermal activity related to Oligocene subduction-related magmatism. A second group of deposits (“Sherman type”) formed by a completely different process. However, two independent studies of the Sherman-type deposits present dramatically different genetic interpretations. Some researchers have concluded that the deposits developed from regional brines during the Mississippian period. whereas others believe that they dewloped from bssinal bnines set in motion by Tertiary igneous intrusions. are d&nit&e
