Editorial Team for World Patent Information
The Editorial Team are responsible for the content and production of World Patent Information and it is hoped that the details in this note, along with earlier notes on the Editorial Advisory Board, will help in stimulating feedback on the journal. The Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editor select articles and other material for the journal with the help of the journal’s referees. They also actively promote the journal to encourage the submission of high quality papers and to generally market the Journal. The Publisher, with the Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editor, sets the strategy for the journal within Elsevier’s overall framework and the Publishing Editor and Journal Manager ensure successful publication and production. Members of the Editorial Team welcome comments from authors, subscribers and readers on all aspects of the journal.
Michael Blackman, Editor-in-Chief Michael obtained a chemistry degree from the University of Sussex in 1965 and joined the UK Patent Office. After a decade of examining polymer patent applications, he moved on to other posts in the Patent Office. This involved extensive classification and documentation work, introducing improvements to manual search techniques and later online searching. Setting up the Office’s bureau search service, The Search & Advisory Service, and extensive intellectual property awareness activities, followed. This also led to assignments in South East Asia with WIPO, and with the EPO. Following retirement in 1999, he took on a new challenge as Editor-in-Chief of World Patent Information. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP).

David Newton, Associate Editor David undertook inorganic chemistry research at Leicester University and then research in the plastics industry. After a few years managing business information services in the chemical and plastics industry he joined Derwent Publications (now part of Thomson) to develop new information services. He worked for the British Library from 1983 as Head of Patents Information and retired in 2003. During this time he wrote and contributed to many papers and books. He is currently a patent information consultant and has been Associate Editor of World Patent Information for three years. He is also a member of CILIP and a former Chairman of CILIP’s Patent and Trade Mark Group.
Tony Roche, Publisher Tony is Publisher for World Patent Information, based in Elsevier’s Oxford (UK) office. He has 15 years’ experience in the information industry, including editorial, marketing, production and agency experience. Principle responsibilities for the journal involve working with the Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editor to develop the strategic direction of the journal, reflecting the evolving needs of its authors and readership.

Dawn Brittain, Journal Manager Dawn is the Journal Manager for World Patent Information and has worked at Elsevier for nine years. She has been the Journal Manager for World Patent Information since 2002; as Journal Manager she is responsible for all journal production matters.
Vicki Wetherell, Publishing Editor Vicki is the Publishing Editor for World Patent Information and has been with Elsevier for nearly 8 years. Her responsibilities include day to day liaison with the Editorial team to aid timely publication.
