an inverse and significant correlation between HDL and LDL levels. The correlation between cholesterol-triglyceride and high density lipoprotein concentration was also significant and negative. Conclusion: The authors conclude that apple pie extract improves blood lipid profile and strengthens blood antioxidant potential by increase of HDL levels. It also leads to a decrease in the level of LDL in the blood samples, which demonstrates reduced risk factors in the body. Poster – [A-10-1142-2] Effect of ear acupuncture on reducing weight and biochemical markers Abdi Hamid Dr. Shaikh Hospital, Iran E-mail address:
[email protected] Introduction: Acupuncture has been reported to reduce body weight, BMI, and anthropometric assessment same as waist and hip circumferences and reduce levels of the serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, and LDL-C, and increase HDL-C in subjects in clinical practice. Materials and methods: In the present study we have evaluated the effects of ear acupuncture on weight, BMI, waist and hip circumferences and several biochemical parameters, including levels of the serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL-C, LDL-C, HsCRP, albumin, and Pab in subjects of both genders divided into 2 groups as the following; Case group: (n=110), subjects with low-calorie diet and ear acupuncture and exercise, subjects were recruited from Nutrition Clinic, Ghaem Hospital, Mashhad, Iran. The acupoints on their ear include: (shenmen), (stomach), (hungry), (mouth), (sanjiao) and (center of ear), (apply ear pressing plaster with seed), and Control group: (n =110) subjects with low-calorie diet and unreal ear acupuncture. The acupoints on their ear include: Hip, spleen, nose, esophagus (apply ear pressing plaster without seed). Both groups received 2 treatment sessions per week for 45 days. Some of the biochemical parameters, weigh, BMI and waist and hip circumferences were measured 3 times in all subjects, first at the beginning and second 6 weeks after the first time (immediately after the end of the treatment) and third 12 weeks after the beginning of the treatment. Results: We observed the significant reduction in W/C–H/C, weight LDL-C, and we cannot observe total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL-C in case (ear acupuncture) groups and the difference of lipid profile between two groups were significant. Conclusion: It appears that ear acupuncture has beneficial effects on anthropometrics and has no beneficial effects on lipid profile in obese and overweight subjects. The most prevalent and gold standard quantitative assessment of the amount of protein excreted in the urine for the diagnosis of preeclampsia is a 24-hour urine collection. However, the collection and analysis of 24-hour urine specimens are time consuming for both the patient and the laboratory. The aim of this study is evaluating protein/creatinine ratio on random urine samples for prediction of proteinuria in preeclampsia. Materials and methods: This study is a cross-sectional descriptive, analytical and prospective study. This study was performed on 150 pregnant women who were hospitalized as preeclampsia in Ghaem Hospital during 2006. At first, a 24-hour urine sample was collected for each patient to determine protein/creatinine ratio. Then, 24-hour urine collection was analyzed for the evaluation of proteinuria. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS software. Results: A total of 150 patients entered the study. There was a significant relation between the 24-hour urine protein and protein/ creatinine ratio (r = 0.659, P < 0.001). Conclusion: Since the measurement of protein/creatinine ratio is more accurate, reliable, and cost-effective, it can be replaced by the method of measurement of the 24-hour urine protein. American Heart Association states that “individual response to stress may be a contributing factor to heart disease risk”. Besides there is a high prevalence of diabetes mellitus, obesity, hypertension (HTN) and smoking in Middle East. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of mortality, morbidity and disability in Iranian population, it accounts for nearly 50% of all deaths per year. The aim of this survey was to compare the prevalence of different CVD risk factors in Shahid Hasheminejad Gas Processing Company (S.G.P.C) with Mashhad population. Materials and methods: The prevalence of CVD risk factors was determined in 757 male employees of Shahid Hasheminejad Gas
