Biological data Irritation. A 48-hr closed patch test with 20% in petrolatum on the forearms or backs of 25 volunteers produced no irritation (Kligman, 1978). Sensitization. A maximization test (Kligman, 1966; Kligman and Epstein, 1975) was carried out with 20% in petrolatum on 25 volunteers. No reactions were produced (Kligman, 1978). This test concentration was based on a reported maximum concentration of 2.0% in consumer products. Concentrations of 1 and 5% in petrolatum were applied to the forearms of 25 male and female broncho-asthmatic patients for 24 hr under occlusion. No reactions were observed (Takasago, 1977).
