Within the framework of existing degree requirements at their respective institutions, a group of professors in the fields of econometrics and mathematical economics at Bonn, London and Louvain announce a coordinated doctoral cuniculum in quantitative economics involving course work at two institutions, some intensive joint activities and access to a pool of thesis supervisors. pv;y

This work may be done at any of the three institutions, in the local language. It aims at providing all students with an adequate background in micra economics, macroeconomics and econometrics, at the level of one year of graduate work and In statistical and mathematical methods used in quantiative economics. Count work: advanced level, Students admitted to the advanced level will do one year of work at a second university. Each university will offer opportunities for advanced work in English in the areas of special research interest to its faculty. intensive joint activities. All the students of this program will come together each year for one or two residential sessions devoted to short courses or seminars on specific topics. These sessions, drawing on the common faculty resources, will aim at providing the students with up to date information about ongoing research and at helping them in orienting their own vork.

Dissertation. The dissertation will be written at either of the institutions where course work was done, and will be submitted there according to local regulations. Minimal standards require that the main results in the dissertation be at least equivalent to a paper publishable in an inter nationally recognised journal. Degree. Doctoral degrees will be awarded by the University where the dissertation is sub mitted, and accompanied by a certificate from the committee stating that the degree is awarded under the European Doctoral Program in quantltative economics. Admission and qualification. This program IS meant for a limited number of high quality students with a basic degree (BA or BS, Diplom, Licence, or equivalent) in any field. They should have, or be prepared to acquire rapidly, a good knowledge of calculus, linear algebra, probability and statistics. They should know English and the local language of the institution chosen for the prellminary course work. That Ins& tution will handle admission formalrties and grant advanced standing in appropriate cases. At the end of the preliminary course work, the program committee will review the qualifications of the students for admission to the advanced year.

Information and applkations. Applications for admission should be received not later than May 1.1977. Scholarships should be obtained by each student from sources in his home country or from cultural exchange programs.
