EXFOLIATED ODONTOMA

A

68-year-old woman came to the outpatient clinic for fabrication of new full dentures. Upon routine examination, a hard, tan, circular mass, approximately 10 mm. in diameter, was found on the anterior hard palate slightly right of the midline. The patient stated that the mass had been present for approximately 15 years, had never bothered her, and had remained the same size for as long as she could remember. Upon probing, the mass fell out. An occlusal roentgenograph showed the mass to be of varying radiodensity.

Microscopic examination disclosed that the specimen consisted of an irregular mixture of enamel matrix and dentin. Diagnosis: Complex odontoma. Mark Birnbaum D.D.S. Arnold Tyrangel D.D.S. Stanley M.
