ABSTRACT A versatile irradiation chamber has been designed the system allohs one to safely handle radiactive fission fragment sources required for irradiating tectors. Among the studies that can be carried out range of o( and measurements, rate of energy loss, and dip angle determinations. Several samples can the same time tiith know f!uences of partic!es.

ABSTRACT A systematic study of LEXAN response to mass differences for 2 =26 ions is presented. Over thirty iron tracks from Berkeley Heavy Ion accelerator have been characterized by a single parameter, namely its mean residual range. A semiempirical function relating etch-rate to restricted energy loss has been fitted to the experimental points and subsequently used to establisha charge and mass scale. It is concannot be achieved with noncluded that an isotopic resolution better than uA=2 sensitized LEXAN.

ABSTRACT
Stacks of various plastic detectors were exposed to 590 MeV/Nucl. and 1.9 GeV/Nucl. Fe-ions at the Berkeley accelerator. The registration properties of Daicel- and Kodak CA80-15 cellulose nitrate plastic detectors were studied. Results will be presented : (a) on the mutual influence of both detectors, (b) on the shielding against such an influence, (c).on the different response of the two surfaces of the same detector, (d) on the specific etching properties in the region of the registration threshold in Daicel cellulose nitrate and (e) on the track etching rates. Kodak CA80-15 showed no registration threshold. We will report here on the first measurements of relativistic Fe-ions (1.8 GeV/Nucl.) in cellulose nitrate plasticdetectors
