Vacuum News The SC system can be used with equal facility to make semipermanent industrial vacuum installations with brazed connections, or for building demountable laboratory systems which can be assembled without use of tools or the need for preparing tube ends. In either case joints have leak tightness better than 10 -~ torr I. s -1.

High limiting relay The Model 93 high limiting relay has been introduced by the Industrial Products Division of Fairchild Industries, and is available through their UK distributor, Oxy Metal Industries (GB) Ltd. The relay provides a dependable high limit signal when installed in a control loop and transmits the varying signal only when the variable is below the high limit setting. The Model 93 has an integral pressure regulator, which maintains the pneumatic high limit setting, and a gauge which provides a continuous indication of the limit setting. It will accept a maximum signal of 14 bars (200 psi) with a maximum signal differential of 7 bars (100 psi) Additional features of this small, 76 mm dia (3 in.) high limiting relay include soft seat construction and optional universal mounting bracket. The company has also announced a low limiting relay, designated the Model 92. Oxy Metal Industries Ltd Circle number 39 on Reader Enquiry Service card

M R C at Internepcon/UK 1976 MRC will feature a range of sputtering equipment including the Series 900 Magnetron Sputtering System. This recently introduced unit has received an unqualified reception by people in the semiconductor industries and other thin film production areas. The Magnetron feature allows sputter coatings in fields where, before its introduction, other deposition techniques had to be used. The unit is now available with Microprocessor controller automation. The new Edwards SC vacuum coupling system.

Four nominal sizes of coupling cover the following diameters of commonly-used metric tubes: 6, 14, 15, 28, 41 and 42.4 ram. The new coupling system can also connect directly to obsolescent Edwards ½ and 1 in. systems, or to the KF clamped system.

A related range of pipeline components--elbows, tees, crosses, etc.--enables complete systems to be built up as required. Edwards High Vacuum Circle number 37 on Reader Enquiry Service card

Another major product line on show will be the new thick film alumina substrate. This substrate has been designed specifically for premium quality thick film hybrid circuits and offers quality features not previously present in other thick film substrate materials. MRC will also show a wide range of thin film Deposition Equipment, High Purity Metals and Alloys, gold bonding wire and their thin film alumina Superstrate. The series 700 long l i n e l i n e a r indicator An electron-beam welding service EB Instruments Services Ltd, is a newly formed company offering a specialized electron beam welding service to the manufacturers of instruments and other precision assemblies. The phenomenon of the low heat input characteristic of the process facilitates fabrication and assembly with the minimum of distortion, often eliminating post weld machining operations. The high vacuum environment ensures contamination free joints. Equipment capability ranges from applications with thin diaphragms (0.002 in.--0.05 mm) to depths of penetration into stainless steel up to (0.250 in.--6 mm). Samples to weld are welcome by the Managing Director Mr R Spittle, together with the opportunity to discuss possible applications at the earliest stage of development possible. Chessell Ltd, designers and manufacturers of laboratory and industrial process chart recorders, have reacted to market trends by producing the Series 700 Long Line Linear Indicator. The Series 700 fulfils the market need for a large, easily read, strip indicator offering fast response (down to 5 s full scale) and operating over a calibrated scale of 230 mm. It is manufactured to DIN size 288 x 36 mm and may be mounted vertically or horizontally. Chessell's market research has indicated a swing away from digital readout with its inherent problem of interpretation owing to the difficulty of reading a "rolling display' in terms of rate of change and direction of change. The large scale of the Series 700 and the visible 'range' makes it readable at distances of 15 to 20 ft and for the operator to assess implications at a glance. The Series 700 is a typical Chessell product, comgining design flair and engineering excellence. It will accept virtually any input signal 479
